Videosift fads
A comment on yet another Rick-rolled post, this one of the Mario variation got me to thinking.
To quoteAemaeth:
Here at videosift, we go through fads where any video about a particular subject gets an automatic upvote from half the community. These videos get flooded over videosift to get some quick star points until we all get sick of them. Current popular topics include: Rick Astley, Scientology, and Obama. Past subjects include Ron Paul. Bashing Fox News or Bill O'Reilly is ALWAYS popular.
And so what I am wondering is how many different fads have passed through Videosift in the past two years?
Let's see how long we can make this list.

We have recently been on a bad "fascist" cops binge.
The Daily Show / Colbert / Simpsons / Family Guy phase was huge when I joined up.
Then there was the catz invasion, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and religion is bad phase...
I can never get my fads to take off....Japanorama has never seemed to go away
Thank God the Canadians can't get Comedy Central stuff to work!!
The latest fad I would hope would implode would be this, white folks trying to be funny, college humor bullshit-1 out of every 30 is inspired comedy-
And thank god the wobal glorming rejects have found a hole to hang out in-
Next question? When will the Obama band wagon lose the spoked wheels of blind, idyllic fervor??
Bush bashing is replaced with cult of personality......humans are quite predictable, eh????
Asia and Cute. I am trying to start ants fad, but that doesn't work.
oh, just thought of one myself. slo-mo destruction of everything and anything
I remember a fad of optical illusions about 6 months back.
I'm still trying to get my "2 Girls 1 Cup" fad off the ground.
Anything with Colbert, Stewart or Conan always got automatic upvotes from the crowd. Family guy was beaten to death for a long, long time too.
This will be the next big fad: emaciated thirteen year old boys singing gay songs in their bedrooms, such as...

I request a TEDTalk fad.
Let's not forget the ZPR fad that's still huge now!
ZPR?
^zero punctuation review
plus there's the atheism fad, but it seems to have staying power so not sure if it qualifies
Ah, ZPR. Yeah, that was a fad. There's a new one too (saw on Digg).
Today I've seen a little microfad of marijuana related sifts.
ZPR and comedy central are auto-upvotes, not fads. Apparently Peter Griffin could sneeze and everyone would upvote it IF we could get it on Youtube.
I'd say the fad I remember most htat hasnT been mentioned yet is the "tiny furry baby animal rolling around" fad. I think basic "aww!" vids go in and out of style here. Currently people are kind of sick of them, I think. Gotta be REALLY cute now.
Atheism is a permanent fixture of Videosift, and it appears that the same will be of ZPR and cute animals. If someone could combine the three, I think that video would go to the top.
we went through that bizarre "dag is cool and funny" fad
robot chicken
Clips from crappy Indian movies, whether they are ridiculous songs or bad stunts.
Edit: Oh, and Bill Maher. Not that I'm completely innocent of that one...
I've been trying to start an indie/Japanese rock fad, but no success. Music hasn't been getting tons of attention here (I mean seriously, some true classics had to get requeued to make it through).
The ZPR fad is awesome and will continue.
You Suck at Photoshop? Perhaps a little early to call it.

true, but only only because that first one, was so appallingly blatant.
so, that naturally went through the roof.

i feel ya on the indie music. there's a lot of great music that gets discarded.
Wow, someone actually read what I wrote. I didn't think that really happened.

Atheism + fad = unactualized meatbots
Indeed, bizarre. He is about as funny as a tire.
