Moving this video to cdimetry's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

Ehhh... I'm going to side with the car-driver. That guy was either not watching where he was going, or badly estimated his and their trajectories and behavior. Biker was going pretty fast right up until the crash. If he tried to stop at all I didn't see it.

Also, is it my internet connection, or did just that car have a terrible framerate?

Jinxsays...

Its a glitch in the matrix!

I figured it was some wierd effect caused by vibrations.

Car driver is 100% at fault. While the biker didn't appear to react at all he did have an absolute right of way. You do not turn across the path of oncoming traffic unless your certain of being able to do so safely no matter how fast they are travelling.

I am pretty sure that the biker was going way over the speed limit, whatever it is... And you bet he did react, by braking and geting ready for the hit, he saw it coming and got ready for it.

The biker may have been speeding (and not by much if he is) but come on, that bike is CLOSE when the DB driver decides to turn. The car pulled right in front of that guy who obviously held the lane.

ChaosEnginesays...

In defence of the driver, we only see the biker first at ~0:08. He could have just pulled out from a side street, and it's possible that the left turning car didn't see him until it was too late.

But that said, that's pretty unlikely. On the balance of probability, I'd have to agree with you.

The biker seems to be doing 50-60kph (35ish mph). I don't see how people think that he could possibly be at fault. That he didn't brake or avoid the collision in an obvious way in no way makes him culpable. He might have just thought "WTF" and didn't have his hand/foot on the brakes at that exact moment ready to emergency brake. Or maybe he was checking his mirrors. Fact is, the car pulled in front of the bike when it was evidently not safe to do so. The bike could have tried to swerve in which case he would have probably thought he'd hit the car with the camera.

I think you missed the sarcasm box . . . Holy cow how do you side with a driver who doesn't obey basic street laws let alone common sense.

I tend to ride pretty slow on 2 lane areas like that when traffic on the oncoming side is slow, because drivers do this all the time... and I wear much higher visibility gear than the guy in the video.

If the biker is injured in any way, he's at fault for his injuries.

The other guy at least had the good sense of surrounding his body with a rigid metal chassis.
