Note that after the commercial was released, the song was so popular that it was re-recorded without references to coke. The coke commercial made the song itself a commercial success. Something about it hit a chord (ahem) with the American public.

I didn't realise that this was a jingle first, I thought it was just a classic corporate rip-off of a real song, like the Carly Simon "Anticipation" song for ketchup.
