how she gets to look that beautiful

maudlinsays...

Starved Dove models? Err, not lately.

Of course, they're still a huge corporation making money from cosmetics, and they are not as transparent as they could be. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They're profiting from being "honest", but people are learning a few things about advertising nonetheless.

Anyway, I'm fascinated by what can be done with retouching, for good or evil.

plastiquemonkeysays...

this is sort of like those "one photo a day for 3 years" videos, because they keep the "camera" in the same place for the whole thing. so her eyes don't move, except when the photoshop moves them.

LadyBugsays...

i think the ending should have more appropriately stated: this is why a man's perception of beauty is distorted.

maxim, playboy, fhm, adverts ... all photoshopped FTW! sad world ...

Kruposays...

Heh, cool observation re piper.

Ladybug, I may not be a lady, but I know many women have distorted perception of beauty as much as a bunch of lecherous men.

I think Dove's logic is that if girls have more self esteem they won't care what some creepy old man thinks is attractive.

MrDerricksays...

I didn't realise that they did these kind of manipulations with photoshop. I thought it was just airbrushing skin blemishes. They extended her entire neck for christ sake. lol

LadyBug, there is no way you convince me that we are all the fault here.

As far as I know we didn't invent fashion, nor did we invent make up, nor did we invent short skirts... and a million other fashion extras you women possess.

Each woman wants to be better then the next, it's only genetic.

joedirtsays...

heck, even some men want to be beautiful women. but at some point, you have to step back and say, should we really be binding women's feet, or photoshopping all magazine covers, or giving boob jobs to 15 yr olds. (Well, yes to that last one, but only if I can sleep with them.. (COPPA disclaimer: this is satire and only applies to 15 yr old in the states of KY, WV, AR, PR, HI)

benjeesays...

Yay! I was the second out of 103 to vote (and 1st to comment) on this possibly over-rated Sift (*pat myself on the back from some unknown reason with a confused look*).

Like the joke JoeDirt ("this is satire and only applies to 15 yr old in the states of KY, WV, AR, PR, HI") - if I had a comedy award to give - it would get it!

MINKsays...

man... capitalism 101 here...

Dove is not "a soap company" it is a Unilever brand. Unilever is the company. They are so huge, they sell stuff to everybody. They put different logos on the stuff so different people think it's "my ideal brand". It's all the same shit, it's fucking petrochemicals tested on animals ffs.

Unilever don't care about women more than they care about their share price. It would be wrong for them to care about anything else. Such is a corporation listed on the stock market.
