Yeah I was with them up until it was a "joke", then it just devalued the whole thing.

Still, looking forward to Johnny Depp not being himself in a film for once. I hope.

Jo Joe Pesci did it first!!

I don't think the joke part at the end did anything to lessen the intimidation factor, if anything, it heightened it. The fact that characters like the one Depp is playing can murder someone in cold blood and then laugh and joke about it a second later just illustrates how much of a psychopath this guy is.
Notice that the guy he was "joking" with, wasn't laughing at the end of this trailer, that's because he knows what this guy is capable of.

You're talking like someone who's never seen Goodfellas.

You would be correct, aside from being another mob film I would not understand it's relevance here.

Sagemind and artician's comments are also in reference to Goodfellas.

Rather than tell you why it's relevant you should stop reading this sift before someone spoils it for you, and go watch one of the greatest movies ever made

Maybe he kills the guy and bakes him in his family recipe + actual family meat. Is that too much or was the joke too distracting? Psychopaths, huh? You just DON'T know -- but sometimes you do, which might be why he wasn't laughing, even though it WAS funny.

Just my perspective, as one who appreciates the varied and magical views that Hollywood has of the criminal deviant. It's all just kinda silly fun really. Real evil men have been witnessed to be charismatic and tell jokes, appearing warm and friendly at times. It's the ability of these criminals to pull us out of reality and make us feel at ease that is truly creepy.

Yeah... I wish it wasn't a "joke"... he was REALLY fucking creepy and intimidating.

It has a character in it played (expertly) by joe pesci that is a volatile psychopath who likes to tease people into thinking he's lost his rag. So you get a lot of stand-off type situations where you just don't know whether the guy is joking or not, and even if he is joking you don't know if he's going to kill them as part of the joke.

I think the point being that there are classic, seminal films that have similar plot devices in, so it doesn't mean this film will suck. However, johnny depp is not joe pesci and this is not goodfellas.

I also recommend you to watch that film if you haven't.
