Workers of the World Relax

PART 1: "Jevons Effect"

The principle of continuous growth which
rule our economy have brought us here.
But is there a different path?

What if we used our gains in productivity to
slow down ? We could work less and produce less.
It would also mean consuming less.

If you like the film please forward this website
to a world that desperately needs some
slowing down.

This has been tried before. Many times on a national level.

It ends badly.

Please, enlighten me on the specifics ....

Working less and consuming less is an option open to most people in capitalist countries. The people choose instead to work more and consume more.

There are really only 2 situations were people seem to reduce their consumption, in a recession or when they are made to do so by force. Neither has ever been improvement.

"Neither has ever been improvement" you say? Since the recent recession, gallup polls show Americans to be healthier and happier. Also, there are examples of high paid workers who have been forced to reduce their work week. Most oppose such measures at first, yet when offered the chance to return to their original work week, few take the increase in pay and hours.

What's it like in Australia/New Zealand (for you sifters who live there)? It seems like continental Europe has it down, but is England the same? It sounds like we are chumps here in the states. I want a 32 hour work week.
