I'm guessing you've never tangled with a big bird. I've had squabbles with Canada geese, and they're fast, vicious, and tougher than you'd think. Turkeys are bigger yet. They could do serious injury to a child. I'd not willingly take on one of them, much less three at once, and never at all with a child to protect.
