The "exercise" part of Wii Fit is kinda dumb.

However, I have to admit that I really like how sensitive it is in measuring your center of balance. That "roll the ball in the hole" game is harder than it looks, and I found it fun. It isn't Counter-Strike, but it's still fun.

I'd have to say that as ridiculous as it seems, it really does seem to work. I've got out of puff a few times using it, which is the point and I know for sure that my posture has improved because of it. Great use of sarcasm though

The wii and casual games are degrading the art of computer games.

sure loads of relay assessable games are coming out and its gr8 for the "industry" that thers a new market to exploit with games that require 0.5% of the development budget.

however the majority of casual games do nothing to advance the art form of games nearly all casual games use the same mechanics established 1970s-80s.

simply because people are to lazy to learn new things ore don't have the bealife that thay will be able to pick up new games.

don't get me wrong i do love casual games so long as thay are original ore significantly innovate on a old mechanic. some really good examples are peggle , monky ball ,Katamari Damacy, waroi war.

just its blatantly obvious with the wii that the resoin people get the product is "to keep fit" "train the brain" "use the wacky controller" and pushed into it through marketing. The sophistication of game play with the majorty of high selling wii games is so non exsistant its as if grown adults are playing with that game where you have to fit the shaped blocks into the wholes.

some people may enjoy putting the square block in the correct hole , but its rather like how people enjoy watching porn it dosent meen we shouldent have sophisticated films that help progress your mind ore deliver a deeper exsperance.

with the way things are going if its cheeper to develop a simple game and it sells more then that's what the games industry will become.

( and yes the vast majority of AAA games are shit as well so fu.k the games industry annyway )

^ That's like saying that cartoons are destroying the movie industry.

Graphics are no substitution for fun. Honestly the game I still play the most is UT2k4, because I find it fun. UT3 is pretty, but boring. Portal was awesome, and the HL2 series is pretty good too, but otherwise I haven't found anything new on PC that is actually "fun" in a while.

If people want to play simple games to pass the time then I have no problem with that. If anything I'd say the "graphics engine with crappy content" games are worse for the industry.

The VO guy sounds like Phil Buckman, the guy who does the Carl's Jr. (and Hardee's if you're in that part of the country) commercials.

Psychologic

if in the film industry cartoons generated the same revinue as a block buster film then thats all thay would make,

the fact is in games realy basic crappy games will make as mutch if not more revinue than AAA games,

and my point was outside of graphics just talking purely about game play mechanics.

also Pc is actually home to the casual game movement look at bigfish games , popcap , and then all the flash agragators.

all i am against is rehashed 80s crap and relay obvouse simplistic games, i know its going to take at least 10 years for the full casual games market to go through the mental progression that most core gamers have done already, and until the casual market is educated about mechanics and conventions (that core players alredy know) we are going to see retardedly simple rehash games over and over.

its as if you had a sudden influx of people going to the cinema who didn't understand editing and needed all there films to be in black and white with a guy playing piano in the background. and then waiting for that audience to mature to modern day cinema .

Well, it wasn't nearly as fun as Wii Wank! I've gone through five controllers and two bottles of Jergin's already!

Oh man, I saw this months ago! I figured it had to have been on here so I didn't bother checking. That's always the way here on the Sift, isn't it?

Westy, I believe there's room for both types of games, although one may unfortunately be to the detriment of the other (for now) like you say. As much as I despise Wii Fit and the "training" line of games, I can't deny it's practical uses, ergo it's popularity, in places like hospitals/physical therapy, elderly homes, and the like. Anything that helps motivate people to get off their fleshy hindquarters/sharpen their minds can only be seen as a good thing.
