But...

He's standing on the thing he's cutting off the wall!

Ready or not, you know that thing's a'coming down, and adding your couple hundred pounds of weight to it isn't going to help slow it down.

That's just sheer stupidity. Heck it's not even sheer, it's pretty damned opaque.

Looks like it merely fell before he was ready, causing him to be off balance.

Well, no. He isn't, he's standing on the 2x6 and -obviously- stupidly using the platform to balance himself to get the last couple chunks. As a matter of fact, the video starts with him completely on the 2x6.

If you notice the 2x6 is stuck into a hole in the far wall, and never moves. If he had never put his right foot on the platform, and just balanced on the 2x6, the platform would have fallen and left him standing on the 2x6.

I figure the video was being recorded to show his Boss-ness, and merely captured his stupid mistake. The whole idea wasn't idiotic, just the brain fart of putting his foot wrong.

It's like those mountain bike riders tearing down the ridgebacks then jumping out in the air and spinning around. If he fucks up the spin and breaks his ass, he's not an idiot, he just made a mistake.

Actually, he's fucking lucky too. The platform didn't fall, it hinged over to the left. It could have then fallen on top of him afterwards. Wile E. Coyote style...

lucky760jokingly says...

Riiiiight.

He's not "standing" on it, but he's leaning enough of his weight onto it that when it falls, he falls with it. Glad you pointed that out the distinction because it makes a world of difference.

But my point, good sir, is that whenever I put myself into an obviously precarious position, I am hyper-focused on ensuring I avoid allowing myself to get into a position where the worst outcome is more likely to happen.

Instead of standing "balancing himself" on the thing he's cutting off the wall, he should have taken a few moments to slide the plank closer to where he needed to be.
