Hilarious!

They did actually explain this in the first film, in the scene where Reese is being interrogated by the police. Although, his character didn't fully understand the physics behind it...

See here at around 1.55 (great scene!)

I think that's a reasonable explanation BoneyD. Though why it needs to be living tissue? I think one conductive whole would be adequate. Otherwise the T-1000 couldn't be sent through as it doesn't have living tissue anywhere.
Nitpicking

This might be the best College Humor original yet.

I always thought it was because the cyborgs were surrounded by skin, but come to think of it that was only Arnie - the T1000 and the T-X (or whatever the T3 chick was called) had no flesh?

Of course, this clip doesn't explain the T-X either, unless this guy was ordered to send a female style bot and just had her strip to keep up the con. Or maybe I'm over thinking it.

I never understood why they didn't send back a bunch of weapons like the "Plasma rifle in the 40 watt range" in a cow or something.

It's best if we just pretend T-3 never happened.

It's not that bad a flick.

The subsequent movies were from different time lines so it's probable that the living tissue over mental endo skeleton no longer applied, hence the more advanced proto-types being sent through.

Boy that was very funny. College Humor and The Onion clips have such good production values.

As for sending back the metal Terminators it's been speculated the metal is itself "living" in some way. Personally I just think the writers in the first film didn't anticipate their scripts being analysed to death over 20 years later

T-3 surprised me. My group of friends and I went in expecting the worst, we came out somewhat impressed. The ending was excellent. It's the weakest of the three, but it's not actually bad IMO.

If they could only send back "dead" material if it is surrounded by living stuff, the terminator could just hide a plasma rifle up his.. well, let's say inside his (or preferably her) body.
