One of my favorite underground hip-hop bands, coupling catchy beats and upbeat lyrics with an old school flavor.

Jurassic 5 is a hip hop group formed in 1993 by rappers Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir aka Soup, Mark 7even, and turntable maestros DJ Nu-Mark and DJ Cut Chemist, who came together from two separate crews, the Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee. (from Wikipedia)

This song is from their third album, Power in Numbers, released in 2003.

Underground? Their three albums received Top 50 Billboard chart positions.

Sounds a little like mainstream.

Touché, I was actually surprised to see that they did indeed make the top 50 for all three albums. Call it mainstream, call it underground, I s'pose it's all relative - I sure as hell haven't seen or heard any major TV/radio stations promoting J-5's music - so to me, or at least the average sifter, they are still obscure.

And if they are or ever become mainstream, more power to 'em. We need more conscious artists like these breaking the boundaries.

I don't know if i'd call them mainstream either, not in the way that ludacris, and akon are... how about underground with a strong following?
