They should have hired someone professional to showcase it. Someone more excited about the actual product. Furthermore it looks like you can built this pretty much on your own.

I agree, keep in mind that you have to supply your own projector. They're still in the early stages of the project, so they don't quite have the resources for anything better I assume.

What a terrible idea. Sure, it surrounds you. But it's also warped to hell. Fuck that.

Personally I find the idea of a "yay-dome" to be interesting, although somewhat gimmicky. Perhaps best used in an arcade, if any still exist.

I have a design for a product exactly like this in one of my sketchpads. I have thought about building one. I think for it to be commercially successful you need to figure out how to mold a dome out of screen material so that you don't have shadows in the image from the projector light passing through the ribbing of the dome.

It would not look so warped in person. Remember you're looking at a 2D video of the thing.

Pretty nice I guess, but if I'm going to buy a projector it's probably going to be so I can have a huge-ass flat screen taking up a whole wall.

Not that this isn't neat, but this only works for FPS games (or at least those are the only ones where you might have the option to increase the FOV, which should lessen the fisheye effect).

Also, it might be easier to have some little hemispherical LCD screen goggles or something if you want to fill your FOV and give the corners of your eyes something to do.

Warped, yes, obviously. But it's also quite easy to write fix with a little coding. You also have to keep in mind that games aren't designed to expand over the Y-axis the same way that many will let you expand the X-axis.

The way this guy talks I thought he was going to pull a bloody human head out of the dome. Just slightly creepy.

In any event they'll need to figure out how to get that dome to go around me while I'm sitting on my fat ass because I'm not standing up to play.
