"Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing when all other options have been exhausted." -- Winston Churchill.

Also, Americans, World War 2 was over 60 years ago. The Moon landing was almost 40 years ago. What the hell have you done in the near half-century since then to justify your unbridled and grating arrogance?

"What Are 13% of Americans Afraid of?"

Either British dentistry, or the Orwellian surveillance state that the UK has become.

"What the hell have you done in the near half-century since then to justify your unbridled and grating arrogance?"

Forgetting any other of a myriad things, I'll go with Mars Rover and designer drugs.

Unfortunately, we can afford to be arrogant in this department. The only comedy to rival the brits over the years has been black american comedians and bill hicks I'd love to be self deprecating and insult my own nation, but in this at least (and only it seems), we lead the world.

You can list stuff back and forth all day and disagree with what each other person says for fun whether you think it's true or not. So what's the point? Watch:

Mr. Show - definitely not
Idiocracy - see above
Strangers with Candy - see above
George Carlin - HUGE no
Richard Pryor - black comedian, which i listed
Daily show - close but no
Colbert - HUGE no

Now you'll just disagree with me and say those things are fucking great, but some of those make me despair, especially colbert, i can't believe you listed him

Ok so where now.......nope, nowhere, we can just disagree each other out all night, brits have definitely been the leaders in the comedy department. I'll let you have anything else, technology, success, even the things we once held proud like education and health, i'll even let you say we're getting as fat as you guys or possibly fatter, we're no longer quaint - packed with macdonalds and other terrible bland-brands that overtook better individual-brands, i'll let you say we're a bit of a hanger on internationally like the kid that hangs out with the bully, you've got the edge on industry, attractive people, land mass, weather, continental diversity within your country, most forms of entertainment, holidays, tourism, film industry, vehicles, engineering, and shit you're just generally nicer people.

But you can't have comedy, that's definitely ours, and i think i'm probably right in saying that too.. i bet a lot of americans would have to admit we've had the powerhouses of that genre.

(and probably military quality too, i'm taking that with me, that's ours, you can have military quantity and technology, i'm not greedy, and we'll share military embarassment every 1st and 3rd week)

Come on now, fair's fair.

Canada wins at Comedy. Brits are runners-up.

If you don't believe me, google "Just for Laughs Comedy Festival", "Winnipeg Comedy Festival", or even just "Canada Comedy" on youtube.

Americans for the most part suck at comedy. When I go to the local yuk-yuks (Canadian Franchise comedy clubs) I can always tell who the Americans are...they're so loud and bossy, and rarely funny.

AND - 13% of Americans are afraid of Mexican Immigrants...the other 87% are afraid of Canadians, after we laid the Canuck smack-down on their pansy-asses the last time we felt like showing them who's boss.

Mitch fucking Hedberg.
Patton Oswalt, Rodney Carrington, Ron White.
Americans have the best animated comedy shows too, simpsons, futurama, south park, family guy, american dad, king of the hill.

British comedy is very different from American comedy. It usually much more satirical and/or quirky than just sit-com or slapstick - and that's not always better.

The Office was a Brit show first. We copied it and made it better. Though that's only the first time we've managed to do that, anyone else remember the Coupling debacle? Or the atrocious Life on Mars, The 11th Hour, or how about the Blackpool remake Viva Laughlin? All In the Family was even stolen from the BBC. Dude you are so wrong.

How do I know?

I started my animation career at that studio, on that show. Where was it? In Hollywood,. John K was originally from Canada, but by no means did he create R&S on his own. Vincent Waller and Jim Smith were just as much creators as he. And John didn't take off and learn his skills in Canada.

The main writers of R&S were all Americans. The music supervisors, painters and animators as well. In fact, there was only one Canadian there.

But yeah, this argument is the dumbest thing ever.

The internet eh? O Rly?

From Wikipedia:

'Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee OM KBE FRS FREng FRSA (born 8 June 1955) is an English computer scientist credited with inventing the World Wide Web. On 25 December 1990 he implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client and server via the Internet with the help of Robert Cailliau and a young student staff at CERN. He was ranked Joint First alongside Albert Hofmann in The Telegraph's list of 100 greatest living geniuses. Berners-Lee is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which oversees the Web's continued development, the founder of the World Wide Web Foundation and he is a senior researcher and holder of the 3Com Founders Chair at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).'

Sure, the concept of packet switching was first documented in New York, and I'm not about to claim the internet for Britain. But that does mean you can't claim the entierty for the US either. The long and the short of it is that it's a joint effort. No one nation can claim the internet. Which is kinda cool, as it emphasises the point of the thing.

On other matters, such as comedy, there's no point in arguing it seeing as its a matter of personal preference, its like arguing what is the best colour or the best number, fucking pointless. I might think that Michael Mcintyre is one of the most promising comedians I've seen in a long time, alot of other people will find him annoying, personal preference is what makes things interesting, arguing your point on it however is like being one of those dipshit hecklers in the crowd. Sit down, shut your mouth and wait for the next act.
