The original band at least kept time, post processing doesn't fix that. I agree with Mink.

Though I've found Metallica somewhat uninspired of late, they can at least play music... And what rock band doesn't distort their guitar output?

Oh this is hilarious. Fake or no, they deserve it after the dismal VH1 special they did a couple a years ago.
Hetfield turned into a whiny boy that couldn't work more than 4 hours a day so his feelings wouldn't get hurt. I can't believe how the band put up w/ it.

This is just one of many parodies done by this person. And it's not nearly the best. Here is the MetaFilter thread about it. My personal favorites are Eric Clapton and Steve Vai. Especially Steve Vai.

They are a great idea and funny. Stop the Metallica hate, they rock too.

Parody's are supposed to make fun of the song, not chopping, changing notes and pitches and making it annoying to listen to. Weird Al is fun to listen to, but the above video makes me want to cut my self with sharp objects. For the un-informed, here is a cut of the real video:

QuadraPixel: If you still don't get the joke, go watch the Steve Vai one. Tell me you don't laugh looking at his serious face botching note after note on a doubleneck guitar.

The effect is to juxtapose the seriousness and fame of the performer with a terrible performance to comedic effect. Live footage works much better than videos, as evidenced by the Metallica one which was one of the least well done imo.
