"On Sunday, Shaalan and two other members of his crew narrowly survived Israeli missile strikes on two Red Cross ambulances. One ambulance was carrying three wounded Lebanese. They too survived but are in critical condition.

Shaalan says that the strikes came despite requests from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Israel for assurances that Red Cross vehicles would not be attacked, and despite the vehicles being clearly marked as Red Cross.

The Red Cross unit in Tyre now has just four ambulances to serve 57 villages, he says. Across the whole of southern Lebanon, it has 40 ambulances serving what is left of a population of 200,000."

In other news....

" Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he was "shocked and deeply distressed by the apparently deliberate targeting" of the U.N. post. Two U.N. military observers were dead and two others were feared dead, Annan said in a statement Tuesday night.

He said Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had assured him that U.N. positions would be spared, and the U.N. force commander, Gen. Alain Pelligrini, had been in contact with Israeli officers throughout the day stressing the need to protect the post.

The Israeli military said it was investigating and had no immediate comment. "

Post a vid about Hezbollah firing rockets at civilian population centers, then we'll talk about international law.

By the way, would it shock you to learn that Hezbollah also uses ambulances to transport personnel and weapons, or that they set up road blocks in neighborhood to prevent the citizens from leaving areas that are targeted?

One is the case of a large country bombing and attacking a neighboring Lebanon. These were Lebanese Red Cross. So, is that why the UN post was attacked? Because Hezbollah uses it to store rockets?

The other is the case of a terrorist regime in southern Lebanon launching rockets into Israel as the have been doing for years and years.

In this case, the Israelis watched them load injured civilians into an Ambulance (they must have been able to see, they hit it with a helicopter) and then shot the roof with large caliber, and at least one missle.

I wonder if they ever intentionally target civilians or ambulances.

Sadly enough Ambulances are often the prime targets in Warring states, I mean if you had to choose between attacking a Van full of medecine or a tank full of weapons what would you choose? yeah the answer is sad.

Biased news, no conclusions can be made from no facts. I doubt Israel intentionally attacked red cross vehicles...there is most likely a reason for the Israeli air strike against those targets.

The edits could've been a little more heavy handed... yeah.

Gonna upvote despite the reptition - you, we get your point - and agree - move on. Man, the editor needs more experience or sense.

This all reminds me of a book I read about the American intelligence services - might've been the unauthorized history of the NSA - regardless, the important detail was that during one of Arab-Israeli full-on wars of the 60's/70's, the Israelis deliberately attacked and crippled an American Signals Intelligence ship (a "spy boat"), to deny the Americans the ability to monitor what was going on in that conflict.

So aside from being outraged at the treatment neighbouring civilians are being subject to, it makes you wonder what the Americans should feel considering their own people were killed in the name of IDF operations.

I don't think that anyone here is supporting the actions of Hezbollah, but no matter what happens Israel is still accountable for their actions. Either they are firing at civilian vehicles or they are conducting strikes that are far too indiscriminate. Either way it's bad news for the people left in the villages being attacked.

Israel are fighting an enemy that has embedded itself amongst inncocent civilians. They should learn from the mistakes that others have made when facing this kind of conflict.

Israel can't expect to bomb a whole country back to the stone age and keep the support of the international community.
