Dr. Michael "Savage" Weiner has one in nutritional ethnomedicine.
Oh, and the Bible says it's also an abomination to eat shrimp:
http://www.godhatesshrimp.com/
Too bad it's that way for both sides.
As far as the clip goes im with wallace, lame.
Sheen's president wasn't quoting Bible verses to show "understanding" of it; he was using it literally and out of context in the same way that Bible-bangers do to prove a point: that the Bible shouldn't be read literally to justify prejudices.
tribalism is looking to be the 21st century's downfall. when people don't 'believe' in global warming, or humanity's effects on biodiversity, etc., the non-stupids will only have themselves to blame for not understanding the stupids enough to convincingly make their point.
... oh, about Dr. Savage; nutritional ethnomedicine is shorthand for a person interested in old fashion medicines and botanical treatments from a specific culture. His PhD centered around the culture and ethnic medicines of Fiji. A strange PhD, but from a good school (Berkley).
I've never seen the Westboro Baptist Church (or other crusaders) respond to this argument. I'd like to read a coherent counter argument, I'm sure someone somewhere must have attempted to make one even if it smells of desperation.
As a semi-fundamentalist Christian I could probably make some kind of counter argument. But it would a) be very long , b) be very dull, and c) be likely uninspiring or unconvincing to anyone outside the church and possibly even to me as well, even though I am interested in and have tried to study theology non-formally. Needless to say, I don't things are quite as black and white as you do on this matter. Which is why the video was interesting to me, and why I posted it here.
Look man, plain and simple, mother earth belches more toxic waste than any of us will ever!!!! Does this not compute???
Otherwise, there is no doubt that we fuck up biodiversity every time we turn around-But....here we are, at the beginning of a new day and we can all still breathe, Jesus has not come back, we did not destroy the planet with nukaler bombs-Enjoy the day, god, its gorgeous here....as in , WHAT THE F...K CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT WITHOUT DOING AWAY WITH ALL OUR TOYS AND EMBRACING THE POLITICS OF NOMADIC HEARDERS AND FARMERS???
Sorry folks, I do tend to carry myself away.
for all you dreamers, there is always the Unabomber's Manifesto......
nothing you said makes sense... hold on let me capitalize that:
NOTHING YOU SAID MAKES SENSE
religion is a farce, especially the christian religion.
I wish people would use their critical thinking skills on religion as they do everythign else in their life.

What if you're physically unable to stand?
that Homer simpson flat tax video is hilarious.
And I figure I'll throw this in there as well. People get a lot of mileage out of berating Christians for having a holier-than-thou attitude (which, I admit, some of them do, but they're missing the point). Being a Christian is most definitely not about thinking you're perfect. It's really about recognizing that you're flawed and a sinner and that God's grace means it's okay. Being condescending is missing the point and if the ultra-conservative Christians could get that figured out they wouldn't be so demonized.
Anyway...
The very simplified explanation is this. Assuming the bible is a literal account as fundamentalist Christians (like me) do, when Jesus came, he superseded the old way of doing things (Matthew 26:28).
The rules in place for the "Book of the Law" Leviticus were for a time when the entire nation of Isreal were to follow one faith and god,not take a pick and mix approach.
The reason the old testament is kept in the bible cannon is there is still a great many valuable lessons to be learned from the examples of the past. The "rules" as it stands today however are as set out by the only designated authority that's interacted with us, the Son of God.
Believe what you want. But I can say for a fact I don't speak as an authority on what neurosurgeons believe to be fact based on a clip I saw on the sift. Don't use fractal knowledge to write off a whole section of people~
"I don't call homosexuality an abomination -- the Bible does."
I know fundamentalist Christians who use this kind of logic to justify homosexuality as a sin. The Bible says any number of things, and any non-Christian could easily sift out which sections are life lessons and which sections should be understood as outdated mores, like eating cooked pork.
So there isn't summary judgement from me against all Christians, or even agasint fundamentalist Christians, just against the ones who quote ancient and obsolete texts in an enlightened world.
Yeah, the Bible promoted slavery, and it was Christian abolitionists who ended it in England and America.
