War on Gaza: In pictures & words

(YT)This video describes in pictures and words the shocking details of Israels deliberate ravaging of Palestinian life and society in Gaza. Its purpose is to call attention to the plight of a people under siege, which so far has been chillingly ignored by governments and the world media unwilling to call Israel to account for its criminal execution of the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians from their own land. The video was created by Sonja Karkar for Australians for Palestine on 9 December 2008 using images captured by various courageous photographers on the ground in Gaza, and the haunting sounds of Sada (Echo), composed and played on the oud by Ahmad Al-Khatib. Irishman - A moving and artistic bit of cinema; with all the honesty of a Leni Riefenstahl film. True, these people lead a tragic existance, because of their sick culture they choose to.

They raise their children on bloodthirsty versions of Mickey Mouse, then send them out with explosives strapped to them. They choose to buy weapons over peaceful impliments. Before the unilateral pullout the Israeli greenhouses in Gaza produced bountiful crops; after, they were smashed in a nihilistic rage.

It's sad, but Gaza has only it's own to blame. I hope for their sake that when this current depraved set of leaders is killed in their tunnels, that the Gazans choose peace and coexistance with the Jews, or it will happen again.

Nobody CHOOSES their culture. The kids are born into it, they believe in it as strongly as a western child believes in Father Christmas.

The father of the culture that you lay blame to is Israel, the mother of this culture is America.

Extremist political culture is born of oppression, just like it was in Ireland and all over the world.

One can reject a sick culture. Manipulation of the children is just one disgusting aspect of how Hamas manipulates it's own people, and world opinion.

Gaza used to be a part of Egypt. When Egypt attacked Israel in 1967 it was defeated, and Isreal occupied Gaza. In the 1979 negociations Israel tried to cede control to Egypt. Egypt wanted no part of it, considered the occupants to be riffraff, and preferred to leave them stranded in the cramped zone.

It's funny how as much as their fellow Muslims claim to care about the Palistinians (who share a culture and ethnicity) they will not allow them to naturalize or makes homes.

The sad truth is that there is more than enough blame to go around on both sides. Both sides want to stake their claim as "the victem" when they are each the victem of circumstances they created. It is true that the Israeli's are far more powerful and their attacks are disproportianate and brutal, their opression of the Palestinian people is inhumane and their targeting of civilians is shameful. But it is also true that peace will never come until the Palestinians truly want peace. They protest when the Israelis kill their children, they must also protest when Hamas kills an Israeli child. One life is not worth more than another. I saw a picture of Orthodox Jews protesting the war in Gaza. I pray for the day I see Palestinians protesting Hamas and Hezbollah attacks on Israel. When I see that I will know that the Palestinians truly want peace. If they want the collective punishment to end they must collectively rise up against their own people who do not want peace.
