Valentino Rossi - 2008 MotoGP Champion, 8 World Titles

Italian Valentino Rossi won the 2008 MotoGP Rider Championship at Motegi, Japan, on 28th Sept 2008. This is his 8th World Championship title and the 6th in the top-flight MotoGP class.

Rossi, 29, won his first World Championship at the 125cc level in 1997 aged 18, then moved up to 250cc and won the World Championship in 1999 aged 20. He moved into the premier class of 500cc in 2000.

Starting with his first World Championship in 2001, he went on to win an amazing 5 World titles in a row, not only as the class changed from 500cc 2-stroke machines to 990cc 4-stroke machines in 2002, but also after switching from Honda to Yamaha.
