Phillips has toured for almost 40 years playing folk songs and telling stories of union activism and hoboing. Many union activist consider him a national treasure. He has recently been forced into retirement by a heart condition.

Here is a story he likes to tell about anarchist activist Ammon Hennacy, and a little folk song Phillips wrote about the basic tenant of anarchism.

I was thinking in terms of oral and musical history. Stories from the 1950's and songs from the 30's seem to fit the channel description for history.

interesting first pick.

btw, Ammon's last name was spelled 'Hennacy', though i can certainly understand your mistakenly using the far more common spelling.

my15minutes: thanks for the correction, I just did a cut and past from YT where I found it, and didn't even notice the misspelling.

I went out searching for this when I read about his retirement and realized he is not anywhere on the sift. I have found other things I wanted to sift, but this is the first time I actually found something that was not already sifted.

^ yw, and no sweat!

yeah. those first couple sifts can be tough, finding something new to contribute.
try garage bands, or oldies, if you're into music.

obscure stuff that you really dug, but never hit the big time.
and historical stuff, like this, is a good choice, because most people are trying to contribute more contemporary sifts, and you won't bump heads.

oh, and unless you're talking to someone that uploaded the clip, or has it bookmarked, ping them with a 'profile reply' after you've written your reply here. that way they know to come back to read it.
