United Breaks Guitars

Full Story: http://www.davecarrollmusic.com/story... - In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didnt deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say no to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.

I have no experience with United, but I flew on, I think it was Continental, and they broke something that I paid $1000 for. It took 6 months, but I got full compensation for what I paid, even though it only cost me $400 have it fixed.

The odd thing is, they never even looked at it. It was damaged on the way to my destination. When I got home, I went to baggage claim, set the bag down and told the guy at the counter that they broke my shit. He asked me if I knew how much it was worth, I told him I didn't know, but I paid $1000. He put that on the ticket and gave it to me and said someone would contact me. He never opened the bag, so for all he knew I could have had it stuffed with pillows.

No one ever contacted me, but like MGR said, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." I made dozens of calls until I finally got someone who told me to fax them a receipt with a copy of the damage claim form. I faxed them the info with a lengthy letter explaining in detail everyone I talked to and everything I did. A few weeks later, I got a letter with an apology and a check for the full amount I paid.

I think airlines make you run in circles in hopes that people will give up, but if you keep pushing they'll pay up.

At first I felt bad for taking the money. I had already paid out of my pocket the repair costs. I thought about keeping $400 to cover what I paid and sending the rest back, but after reflecting on what I had to go through, I figured I'd earned it.

This guy obviously has no skill with customer service representatives.
Remember, kids: The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yeah, I can't imagine a wheel getting much more squeaky than 1.3 Million hits on Youtube in a week.

This music video is going to cost United Air a lot more money than simply offering good service in the first place.
