To get one of these cards, you must meet American Express's strict financial criteria, and pay an annual fee of $2,500 plus a $5,000 initiation fee.

I'm sorry but im not terribly impressed. Seems like a complete fucking waste of resources to wrap around a piece of plastic smaller than an index card.

Not to mention, money isn't inherently impressive.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. Right up there with the $9000 cell phone.

All the wealthy people I've ever met were very frugal. There is no margin in paying large sums of money for the luxury of being able to borrow more. When you're that wealthy, there are plenty of places that will lend you vast quantities for free (or almost nothing.)

This is only useful for impressing your other not-really-wealthy-enough-to-afford-this-either friends.

What a great way to draw attention to yourself and send the message that you have tons of disposable income. If I saw somebody using this in the mall, I'd follow them home and rob them the following day. Just for fun.

AmEx knows that it's all about the status symbol.

Market is already there. The market demands, so they supply.

Just playing the game.

I looked up this card...evidently there are some perks like buy one get one on airline tickets, personal shoppers at certain stores, buy one get ones at selected hotels...

I guess if you had to do all these things anyway, this card wouldn't be such a bad thing to have. It could even save you money.

What do you think people with this kind of income use for purchases? A debit card from their local credit union? A friend of mine served Rick Hilton at an EAA dinner some years ago and he apparently paid using one of these.

If you decide to pick up a Gallardo on your way to the Four Seasons, this is what you do it with.

It's known as the Black American Express card, for some unknown reason. It supposedly is completely limitless, meaning that you could by anything with it. And, yes, it's an enormous status symbol that screams "I'm unbelievably wealthy."

In my life I've only seen one in person. It was several years back when I saw an older Asian woman checking out with it at Victoria's Secret. (I was there because I needed a new thong bikini.)

My boss has one of these. I believe he qualified by charging $250K on his business Amex within a 12-month period. He has it because he's painfully obsessed with what others think of him. He's not only NOT unbelievably wealthy, he's not even kinda wealthy.

I don't get it. A credit card is a tool for buying things. Why does it need to cost money in and of itself?

When I receive new credit cards in the mail, the terms are just written on the back of a piece paper that says "FUCK YOU."
