An investigation carried out by GuardianFilms for Channel 4 uncovers how thousands of Iraqis employed at $10 a day by the US to take on al-Qaida are threatening to go on strike because they say they have been used by the 'Americans to do their dirty work' and haven't been paid. -Source

This ranks up there with the stupidest ideas ever. How much will this penny-pinching indifference end up costing the US?

Yeah, I can't understand why the US wouldn't pay. Seeing as they pay their contractors up to a 1000 a day or something.

So Al Qaeda comes in and beheads your family members, kills your friends and tells you you can no longer teach math and science... and you refuse to fight against this unless you are paid $10 per day? The first half of this video was dedicated to telling us how horrible life under AQ was. So they think they are better off living like that then they are now without the $10? What a mess.

I guess what they are saying is that they won't help the US anymore. They'll probably still protect themselves from Al Qaeda.

Sofa King: What comes first? Feeding your family or fighting a bunch of monsters, who if you were not fighting them, would leave you alone.

If the U.S. wants these people to dedicate their time to soldiering for our prerogative, then they better start paying them.

I understand your point, and I sympathize with these people. The US SHOULD be paying them... and more the $10 /day as well. But I disagree about your statement that keeping people in the dark ages by force is "leaving them alone".
