Twin Peaks - Touching scene between father and son

Kreegath uploaded this clip to YouTube and shared it with me. It's a touching scene between a straight-as-an-arrow military dad and his rebellious son. It really connected with me. I think some people here (including some parents) will also relate.

Here's exactly what I wrote to Kreegath after he sent me the link to this clip:

"You know what's weird? I barely ever watched Twin Peaks; I was never particularly into it. However my older brother was, so occasionally I caught glimpses of the show anyway, and I DO recall this scene. I distinctly remember the father's description because he used the word "palazzo", which is a very uncommon word in American English usage. Anyway this particular scene always stuck with me, because I always felt like a "troubled young man" like this kid.

As soon as I get an opening in my queue I'd be happy to post it. Thanks for sharing it with me."

i felt a bit silly watching this.
i never knew my biological father and have no desire to meet him. i had, however, the terrible misfortune to live with a stepfather who's the meanest drunk bastard you can imagine, a walking stereotype you might say. if i could get away with it, i'd probably smash his head in next time i run into him. so this scene is kinda lost on me, is what i'm saying...

I watched this show when I was a kid. It was a bit over my head at my age, but I loved it for some reason.

I love that scene even more, because it makes me think that General George S. Hammond had a very odd personal life that he kept secret from the SG-1 team. (Despite one being a General and one being an Admiral, and the huge time gap)

And.... I just found out he's died of a heart attack June 29th. Boo.

I always thought this scene was amazing. The entire speech describes such a mundane thing, a simple meeting at a door, but the dad his so poetic, which is what was so interesting about his character: the poetic military hardass... so freaking unexpected.

Some fun facts about Major Garland Briggs, played by Don S. David:

He made his film debut in Joanie Loves Chachi, he was a stunt double in MacGyver, and, Jesus Christ, but he can't get away from the military type casting. I swear to god, that's pretty much the exact uniform he wears in Star Gate SG-1 -- which I might add, makes the circle complete.

Oh, also: David Lynch ftw.
