Toronto Man Busted With 2,865 Stolen Bicycles

LikeLeak: He's been dubbed his city's "most hated man" but some claim unofficial world champion of bicycle thieves was simply performing a social service.

Police in Toronto, Canada, have arrested second hand bicycle dealer Igor Kenk for allegedly stealing or arranging the theft of 2,865 bicycles, The New York Times reports.

Kenk allegedly recruited homeless people and mental patients to help him More..steal the machines which he stored at his shop, the Bicycle Clinic.

When the police subsequently raided the Bicycle Clinic, fire crews at first blocked them from entering for safety reasons.

The building was so crammed with bicycles and bike parts that a fire rescue squad had to remove the upper-floor windows and lower the bicycles by rope.

I found my bike there after two years. I know someone who found her bike after 18 years. No kidding.

The "social service" he was performing alluded to above was that if your bike was stolen, you knew exactly where to go to find it. Crap. I'd rather know where my bike was because it wasn't stolen. In the month before he was arrested, there were 49 bikes reported stolen in Toronto. Typical month. In the month after he was arrested, there was only one. One.

So kudos to the cops for performing the much higher social service of putting this waste of life out of business, and organizing the daunting task of reuniting nearly 3,000 bikes with their owners.

Seriously, I have to go check on a stolen bike we lost a while ago this week.

I'd be extra upset if my bike were stolen for no reason - I can't imagine he ever actually used any significant percentage of these
