This is basically nonsense; time travel with the LHC is probably less likely than the other typical LHC related hoopla, such as the fearmongering over it creating Earth destroying black holes. This time travel hype started with the Russian and a dozen clueless media outlets have run with it.

Actually, time travel is possible according to relativity. The faster you move through space the slower you move through time, so just move fast enough and you are effectively traveling to the future. To move backwards in time you need a wormhole with one end close to a black hole, the extreme gravity is equivilent to moving fast under general relativity, so that end of the wormhole lags in time behind the other end.

Dividing by 0 is also possible. The limit of k/n, where k is any constant, as n approaches 0 is infinity. Similarly, k/infinity = 0.

"approaching" isn't a finite number even if you say the difference between the number being approached and the actual approaching points are negligible. Infinity cannot be grasped, only discussed, it is metagnostic (thanks choggie

). Solving math by using limits is like having sex with a condom: its safe and it gets the job done, but it just isn't the raw fun that everybody can enjoy. but thanks for your definition of horizontal and vertical asymptotes though, that was lovely. And the third point about kronos' ex wasn't disproved, he just doesn't know about it

Saying that one is effectively moving through time because they are going fast is the same thing as saying that I'm traveling through time sitting here on my amazing ass. As I sit here, time passes by. That doesn't mean I'm traveling though it. OH, and one other tiiiiiiiny thing - it's called the theory of relativity for a reason.

No, my money is on the statement that time travel is not possible. If it were, theoretically, we would already know about it. How can something exist that hasn't happened yet?

I say that time is only something that man created to organize his life, and there isn't some extra-planar existence or any other B.S. like that.
