Supposedly cats have a sense for babies being babies, so most of them are unlikely to act out at one of them, unless it's a cat that doesn't fit in well with a toddler. My parents once told me I behaved like this sometimes and our cats were very tolerant.

Haha, but look at the cats eyes. At 0:18 they seem to scream "Kill me, kill me now!"

I wonder if this is the same cat. They should name him Job.

I was sure my niece was going to get her eyes scratched out when she walked into the room carrying our cat upside down by her hind legs, but the cat just laid back and went with it - wailing loudly the whole way.

She's an ill tempered cat so I was amazed she had the sense not to hurt a baby.

Unamused Cat is not amused.

Upvote for how big the cat's eyes got when the kid started bouncing near the beginning...

I had a cat like that... Zuzu.

She was a Maine Coon, but the runt of her litter. She grew to an astonishing length (maybe 2.5ft) and weight(~18lbs). She was the sweetest cat. She would purr so loud you could hear it across a room. My parents got her when I was 2, after our first cat died from leukemia.

The vet called us and said he had an extra sweet cat, unfortunately my sisters answered the phone when he called so my mom did not have a way out. She called my dad hoping he would say no.

But I got on the phone and said something like, "Daddy, I named her Zuzu". And it was over. She lived 23 years despite having diabetes, a consequence of her old age. Towards the end of her life my father would give her insulin shots in the morning and evening every day.

Not a day goes by that I am not thankful to have known her.

It's amazing the kind of demeanor you can elicit with 3 tablespoons of codeine. For the cat I mean, not the baby.

That's amazing. Didn't know cats could live that long.

Animals are not dumb, they're just frightfully uneducated.

Had a neighbor whose little girl used to carry a cat around and for a while I thought it was a stuffed toy. Many animals are like that.

It's said that a horse will not buck if a pregnant woman is on its back.

I'm sure the cat is thinking, "Just wait until the camera is off so there isnt any evidence..."

My cat prefers babies and kids to adults. She actively seeks them out and couldn't give a crap what they do to her, she just casually walks off again if they do anything too outrageous. It's very cute, but something needs to redeem the bastard for bringing toads into my house all winter, torturing them and making them scream

The cat owed the baby one. Those stubby little fingers can be good for getting into the cat food.

My cat (a 15 lb. polydactyl) will pretty much take my hand off if I pet him wrong, make sudden movements, or if it's between the hours of 8 and 7. I don't think I'm going to bet (and by bet I mean chance a potential lawsuit) on my cat suddenly being kind to children and not clawing his eyes out.

I had a big orange cat that I used to cuddle with like a big ol' pillow. Had it since it was a kitten, so it was completely non-violent towards humans. Haven't met a cat like it since. I miss my big orange buddy.

First off, good kitty.

^I thought cats were a health risk around babies? Some kinda biochemical about cats..

Myth.

I had a big orange cat that I used to cuddle with like a big ol' pillow.

I too used to have a cat I could use as a pillow. His name was Alex, and he died fairly young from Feline Leukemia; which he probably contracted from being an outdoor cat in a semi-big city: Lansing, Michigan. When I moved to Phoenix I couldn't really take him with and gave him to my g/f's parents to take care of. They're part of a big family and often host for holidays. They told us that he would come home during gatherings and seek out the little'uns to 'play' with (be played with).

After he died we got another cat, and she's almost as sweet as Alex was. I think what T.V. shows like The Dog Whisperer and It's Me or the Dog show us about dogs is also true for cats, if to a lesser extent. The personality of the pet is dependent on the owner.

Animals take their cues from the same, more subtle, signals that babies learn from. Not language but rather inflection, body language, and smell (chemicals). My guess as to why cats treat babies as nicely as they do is that they know the baby means no harm. A stressed out adult on the other hand...
