Mel Brooks broke so many taboos. This was made during a time when racists ran unchecked in all parts of the media. It's anti-racist in it's use of racism.
I'm glad to hear it's not as I thought. I watched up to the guy yelling the N word over the bell and stopped it. I have no problem with satire that parodies and makes fun of true racists, but I didn't detect any up to that point. Thanks for clarifying.
Well worth it, cb. You'll be glad you spent 5 days getting it. ;-)
It's so odd, lucky...I've used this "online name" (is there a title for it? "Nom de computere"?) for so long that whenever someone makes a joke about Fred or Velma, I think, "Whaaa?" It takes me a few to get it. ;-)
Irony is that I did get it from Scooby Doo. I was originally "Danger-prone Daphne." Velma called her that on the show and I thought, "Great name for a band!" I might have been drunk.
So obviously I used it to brand myself for as long as I'm online.
Fantastic stuff. Gene Hackman helped make this comedy top notch. A shame that such movies now would be protested, boycotted, spammed about, run into the proverbial ground on the endless news cycles, and generally knocked for being things they aren't by small minded people who have nothing better to do. "Blazing Saddles" was perfect for it's time.
It's been copied so many times that I can see how someone would consider this "boring" if watched for the first time. Filmmakers took what Mel Brooks created and built on that...but his genius was the foundation for a lot of the genre as we see it today.

This got an upvote from me before I even watched it. Mainly because I've seen the movie enough to know the scene just from the thumbnail. I still quote this movie on a regular basis. i'm surprised so many people have never seen it. I think it's a must for all.
The only "racist humor" in BLAZING SADDLES makes fun of the racists. Cleavon Little is the hero.
He was genius...before Spaceballs.
Thanks for clarifying.
I'm sure there's a torrent somewhere. It's such a great film.

The odd thing is that I hate that show.
But I have no fear...they'd never make it out of the queue. ;-)

ROFL.
I love this movie.
