The History of Surgery - James Young Simpson and John Snow

Sir James Young Simpson was a Scottish doctor and an important figure in the history of medicine. Simpson discovered the anesthetic properties of chloroform and successfully introduced it for general medical use.

John Snow was a British physician and a leader in the adoption of anesthesia and medical hygiene. He is considered to be one of the fathers of epidemiology, because of his work in tracing the source of a cholera outbreak in Soho, England, in 1854.
