Okay, but who would REALLY want to live forever? I mean, wouldn't that get kinda boring? Plus, the overpopulation problem. Obviously that's not what they were actually after, but they made it sound like it at some points. I feel bad for her.

I definitely want to live forever, I wouldn't care if sterility was a consequence of that.

It would only get boring if technology never moved past where it is today (assuming you're healthy). Besides, extreme longevity isn't the same as immortality.

No. At early ages people grow as they age, but that is different than the myriad of degenerative diseases referred to as the "aging process" later in life. Assuming she lives that long, it will be interesting to see how she fares in her later years.

Thumbnail is a lie! Was hoping for a girl who stayed looking like a teenager forever, not a toddler

The 'everyone is here for a reason' concept is a total fallacy. It is the other way around.

We are here, thus we must make a reason for our existence. Assuming we are here for a predetermined reason assumes that something beyond ourselves and our own actions predetermine what we will do and what we will become. That is just plain stupid and makes about as much sense as finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Now if this girl does reveal a biological condition to help better understand aging and potentially result in technology that extends human life, then great. All the better.

It is sad she suffers from this rare condition for sure, and it must certainly be difficult for her family.

Ultimately, we need to thank medical researchers for advancements in modern medicine on all fronts. We should say thank you doctor for the heart or liver transplant that saved a child's life. "Thank God", is not who should be thanked. A so-called 'God' giving a child a failing organ, requiring the harvesting of a good organ from another individual with the 'misfortune' of dying due to apparently god-planned circumstances is totally nonsensical.

A lot of the world's ills would be remedied if we lived for THIS life, rather than a magical NEXT life that no-one can prove even exists.

I'd prefer the option of not dying if I don't want to. There's always going to be a way to end your life, however well your body resists aging. As for this girl, it'll be interesting to see if she really doesn't age - that is to say, her DNA doesn't decay as she grows older, her joints heal themselves, the nervous system doesn't degenerate... I kind of doubt that's the case, she just isn't growing like people usually do.

A lot of people just downvote Westy. It's fallout from having opinions that are not in line with most of the people who bother voting.

"Okay, but who would REALLY want to live forever?"

You're welcome to opt out of medical treatments in 50 years that would expand your life span. Don't let the door hit you on the way out

I plan on seeing the 2200's myself, but if you guys don't want to live that long, that's your choice.

I would put it a little more subtly... like, "Just think guys, in a couple years she'll be legal!"

In order to pull off an inappropriate joke, it needs to be both crass AND funny. If it fails at being funny you just come off as being unbelievably creepy.

I'm not saying you couldn't craft a joke about sexually abusing severely retarded teenage girls, but . . . wait, no yeah that might be the limit.

Then again Ricky Gervais pulled off a good necrophilia joke on sesame street. So that gives me hope that the infantilized midget rape barrier will be cracked some day. But I don't think we have the technology yet.

Reminds me of the game "Lost Odyssey".
The game on the whole doesn't do a whole lot to convey the message of living forever, but every once in a while, you get a story unlock, and it really gives you a sense of more...sadness.

Being unable to age and die, and still see the world around you, families, friends, colleagues, everyone really, live their lives until they run out, and starting over again.. That really would be a hell on earth to me. I couldn't stand having to repeat a cycle over and over, knowing how it's going to end every time.

You just can't avoid taking a quote like that out of context. I just wish Charles Darwin had said it, it would make the creationists much funnier.

But if we're talking longevity as a consequence of new medical procedures and such, everyone else would have the same chance at immortality as you, if they could afford it; but they could just mortgage 100 years of labor to pay the ticket. Like Scientology does now, but, you know, for real.

And if you don't want to be caught in a cycle, 50 years of therapy would clear that right up!
