I was aware of these 4 awesome chords, but I didn't realize they were used that often. Still, it's pretty impressive just how different most of these songs sound, given they're all built on these 4 simple chords.

Yeah, for real. I'm with Xax. That's nuts! It's like the Ubiquitous Break Beat.

^amen to that.
seriously, couldn't they have gotten a better singer for this?
never mind, I just heard their impression of TAKE ON ME and i found the falsetto milk through the nose hilarious.
But the actual upbote came at the "I'm a mutherfuckin birdplane" line. classic !

Screw the nsfw, if youre to that part of the song at work and people are listening they would do well to be okay with it.

I always wondered about this stuff.. is it really the same chords in each song? Has someone looked them up, checked them to be these chords are presented by these videos?

That'd be amazing. But what i sort of feel is that they're singing songs to a beat and the chords they match to the singing sound ok, but not necessarily to my ears like the song they are taken from.

I'm just wondering, not hating.

*downunder (you can tell by the pure number of Aussie bands included)

However I'm not that impressed by these videos (and there are a few of them)... I mean it's not like the melodies over the top are the same.

There are a host of basic building blocks of music, and this is one of them.

To me, that makes a big fat... 'So what'... do this with melodies and see how many songs you get together.

But upvote for the amusing singing and number of Aussie songs.

Using the same chord patterns is over-condemned. Fully agree with "spoco2" about the "so what".

It's a bit of a stretch for an analogy, but I feel it's like complaining all the hamburgers today use bread, lettuce, and beef.

Funny Glycerine by Bush is in this mix: A local karaoke Jock our here has a melody in the same vein as this, using Glycerine as a base.

I'm another who doesn't "get" this. They lay down a repetitive track and sing over it in the more-or-less style of the original songs. Since they don't lay down the original music, it is up to me to imagine, from memory, how close it is to the original. Ever listen to one song while watching a different video? Our minds can sync things up amazingly well. This is BS. If they want to illustrate their actual point, do it better.

OTOH, it is cute I suppose. So is hello kitty.

I guess they're saying that a LOT of pop songs use the same 4-chord progression.

The Pachelbel Rant is much better IMO....this one is a bit tedious.

Now I want to try making a Pandora station that only plays songs with 1-5-6-4.
