Swing Kids - Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen

Nazi Raid of swing kids at swing band bar where they prevent single people from socializing, fun and meeting the opposite sex, regardless of racial or ethnic heritage, which is their right as human beings to enjoy.

In the late 1930s - early 1940s, social groups and gangs called "Swing Jugen" or Swing Kids emerged among the youth of Nazi Germany to rebel against the obvious Fascist regime, as they watched their freedoms being stripped away and their free Democratic society disappearing around them. To show their contempt, hatred and resistance to the evil, they used Swing music, American culture and British fashion to rebel against Nazi authority in every way and every waking moment of their lives. Many were involved in the underground resistance, forming violent gangs revolting with force against Nazis around Germany and spying for the Allies. Others, unfortunately gave into the pressure of the Hitler youth recruiting and were forced against their will to join the HJ, "Hitler Jugen". Youth Hitler law enforcement trained early to become soldiers. This turned friend against friend, lover against lover, brother against brother and families split apart or eliminated.

The song is Andrew Sisters - Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen

Yiddush song originally composed by lyricist Jacob Jacobs and Sholom Secunda in 1932. In 1937, Sammy Cahn heard a performance of the song, sung in Yiddish by African American performers Johnnie and George at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and on seeing the response, got his employer to buy the rights so he (together with Saul Chaplin) could rewrite the song with English language lyrics. He then convinced The Andrews Sisters to perform the song (recorded November 24, 1937), and it became a major hit.

This is the original Yiddish performance of the song.

The first movie I saw Sean Mark Leonard in was Much Ado About Nothing (one of my favs) I wasn't impressed with him. He was just so out of place. "Can the world BUY such a jewel?" ::: he says as he looks into what, the sky?:: heheh
Luckily he is quickly forgiven once you've endured all of Keanu Reeves's scenes in the film.

He grew up though, and is one hell of a fine actor now. *promote Swing!
