It's a simple decision to avoid political confrontation resulting in conflict.

For many people, living in "diverse societies" produces a paranoid pathology of hyper-sensitivity concerning anything racial, political or religious. The principal (be he black or white) simply wanted to avoid politicising a primary school student.

This pathology has even went so far that a boy was sent back home for wearing a Swedish national flag on a football jersey... IN SWEDEN.

Apparently it was "racist" to wear a flag of one's own country! (link)

^Nice scare quotes on 'diverse societies'. Contemptuous of diversity? Nice.

There is nothing even vaguely confrontational about the shirt and the principal is ultimately the one who has injected politics into an otherwise innocent situation.

I can't upvote this because I support the teachers deceision to tell students to not wear the shirt.

Here in New Jersey it's not gonna cause a problem. But with some states out west where Obama is not being received well I think the BOE is making the right deceision here to protect the child and keep the school calm.

It may well be that their policy is to not allow messages/images of political candidates to avoid having a point of conflict between students. This might be stupid, but it's not racist. Nothing in the video indicates racism.
