Family Guy is basically a bunch of writers sitting in a room with a tape recorder spouting out everything. "how bout we do this" "how bout we do this"....and then they go an animate it. They throw a TON of stuff at the board, then see what sticks. A shot-gun approach at comedy....scattered far enough it's bound to hit something.

I realise simpsons has done just about everything, but to have that many similarities is just lazy writing... and to be honest, i find the simpsons did it with more zazz. Kinda makes the family guy writing look like they're just shooting in a dimly lit room based around things they grew up with. Darn, and I liked family guy too.

Here's a weird idea. I'm going to continue watching The Simpsons AND Family Guy and they will both make me laugh.

*Gasp!

TV is shit. Even the good stuff. Every series out there has re-hashed plots and verbatim scenes in more than half their episodes.

So, stop watching TV or just let it entertain you slightly while you wait to die but don't act surprised when every scene of every episode of every show on every channel is not original. That would be a fucking creative miracle.

if comedy was new and original, you wouldn't get it. like lucasgreen, i don't see the problem in liking both. heck, i might even still watch futurama sometimes even though it's a total cliche about a guy who lives in the future with a robot. makes me laugh, therefore is funny.

I like FG better. I don't care if it's original or new or whatever. And I agree that every joke stolen by FG is even funnier in their version. Perhaps some time somebody will compare every Simpsons episode with every comedy ever done. I liked Simpsons a lot in the old days and they deserve credit for what they did for the comedy / animation world, but Simpsons repeats itselves too much these days. You can also understand some of the FG jokes as a tribute, if you want.
