This is good stuff. Funny tho... there's a 2-disc edition being advertised at Best Buy for 10 bucks. I may actually pick it up to see if it's in it.

I watched this movie a few times. And it's still amazing. I'm kinda sad that it didn't get any Oscars (or did it?). Then again, it was competing with Forrest Gump. Ah such a good time back then...

Thank the gods that didn't make it. There's a lot of stuff in there that just doesn't work. Tonally, visually, etc... it just doesn't fit. Especially all that stuff about the summer of love, giving it some kind of historical context. I didn't think that was appropriate. I LIKED how Shawshank, aside from some of the obvious things, didn't seem STUCK in some point in history. Its just a solid drama, and that stuff would have made it less subtle.

I can see why this didn't make the cut; most of it is new material and never happened in the novella. Too bad Darabont didn't follow suit when he shot the ending of "The Mist".
