Self-Induced Religious Fit

From the series, "When Christians Misbehave"
This is a two part benediction at a public college in Texas given by the very religious valedictorian of that school. This came after some wrangling about whether to even have a benediction, since some students objected. This is unbridled Christian advertising in the form of a self induced fit on stage.

I have more videos of Christians Misbehaving and I'll be posting them soon. I have big plans for religion in Texas! :o)

The way she refers to nonexistant supernatural entities so sincerely is totally psychotic/creepy. I thought she was gonna break out singing Cartman's song of praise: "I wanna get down on my knees and start pleasin' Jesus, I wanna to feel his salvation all over my face!" lol

Being an atheist I sympathize, but censorship isn't the answer. I'm not threatened by this type of theatrics, maybe a little creeped out but that's okay. If anything I suspect that it does more harm to religion than good.

If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all.
- Noam Chomsky

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
- Voltaire

What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.
- Salman Rushdie

Free speech is intended to protect the controversial and even outrageous word; and not just comforting platitudes too mundane to need protection.
- Colin Powell

Of course I'd be free to fall over laughing aswell

Dangerous twaddle of people wanting to be conduits for a God that never answers them.

I feel sad for them.

Benediction? How about fecoldiction?

I don't find it threatening, but it makes me too uncomfortable to watch it. A completely psychotic freak trying to convince you that she is connected to the almighty. Now she'll go raise some kids and try to make them as batshit insane as she is. I hope she doesn't breed.

I hope I'm clear that I truly despise and loathe this woman. I have no problem with most Christians, but people like this would just completely trample your rights, even end your life if they thought it'd make the next person over believe they're closer to god.

Here is a comment posted on youtube by the creator of the video:

It's a small publicly funded public college in a small town in Texas. She was well known among the students there long before this, as the wild religious kook with the best grades. We had to edit out the part right after part I, when you can hear people talking among themselves, and it's a big collective noise. "WTF??" they probably said quietly.

Let's chuckle at the kooky Xtian girl and ignore the gathering shadow of barbaric islam.

Atheists are as annoying in their surety as religious kooks are in theirs.

Atheism - A belief system that condemns all others as wrong and works fanatically to destroy those who oppose their beliefs even to the point of trying to pass legislation outlawing their constitutional right to free speech and constitutional right to freedom of religion.

Congratulations on creating a new religion even less tolerant than Islam.

You guys act like Christianity is the only belief system that has a stake in intolerance. At least Christians will acknowledge your constitutional right to disbelieve in God and many have even fought and died for your right to do so. Why then are Atheist so fanatical about trying to destroy those who believe differently? When did people become so intolerant of others? When did it become so criminal for people to think differently? These were the very same problems that our Founding Fathers were trying to escape from and which led to the creation of our free Republic. It is amazing that we have become the very thing our Founders were trying so desperately to get away from. Apparently no one has learned anything from the history of our nation and how it came to be. History forgotten is History repeated.

I just wonder now how long it will be before Christians are thrown in jail or executed for their beliefs. It is happening all over the world so why not in America as well.......

"Atheism - A belief system that condemns all others as wrong and works fanatically to destroy those who oppose their beliefs even to the point of trying to pass legislation outlawing their constitutional right to free speech and constitutional right to freedom of religion."

Please. Your talk of persecution is the kind of thing said by someone who hasn't actually experienced it. No one is trying to outlaw Christianity, not in Europe or the Americas.

The only thing, in fact, that people are trying to do is maintain the seperation of church and state. I'm sorry you can't have the Ten Commandments in front of your school, courthouse, or other institution, but that's kinda how things were written to begin with. The US is not a Christian country, my friend - it is a country of multiple religions, and the only way you're getting your Ten Commandments is if others get their Wiccan Ried, or quotes from the Koran, or the words of the Torah, or even L. Ron Hubbard's words on Scientology up there as well.

I don't have a problem with Christianity. I have a problem with Fundamentalism, be it Christian, Islam, Buddhist or Shinto.

Exactly right, Swift, but you have it a little backwards. The founding fathers absolutely wanted a separation of government and religion, but in the early to mid 20th century and again with a big push from this administration, Christian beliefs, values, and symbolism have very much eeked their way into government.

You think Christians are persecuted? Atheists are considered one of the most untrusted groups in the United States according to some recent poll that I don't have the source for (look it up). And for what? Because we don't believe in a magic man based on some old book?

Atheists get upset, particularly at fundamentalists, for two main reasons. One atheists get persecuted all the time by Christians who claim to love everyone. For some apparently that love is only valid for other Christians or conservatives that believe the same things as they do.

Two, it's incredibly frustrating for an atheist to see people who blindly believe in ancient texts and irrational concepts despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Most atheists just want to educate religious people into understanding how the universe actually works, because the reality of it is FAR more compelling to us than myth. To be fair, most religious people want the exact same thing - to teach others about the "truths" of their religions. The problem is that religious "truths" aren't truths, they are beliefs, while atheist truths are scientific and have logic, reason, study, experimentation, observation and a system of testing and checking those truths so that we actually verify and very often reexamine, refine and alter what we know. They can't even be called truths in most cases because we admit that there is still so much that we don't know, but just because we don't know it yet, doesn't mean that we won't eventually find out. For us, not knowing 'how?' or 'why?' will never be a reason to fall back on mystical, supernatural reasons to fill in the gaps.

for all her good grades that chick is a misguided, gullible idiot. we should pity her.
meanwhile quantumushroom and XSwiftX are fuckin idiots for trying defend these insane people with their backwards logic...
XswiftX especially...asking dumbass questions like this....

GO LEARN SOME HISTORY

perhaps you forgot the crusades, the inquisition and about every other war that has been waged in "the name of god". Not one has been named in the name of "atheism"

this country was populated by people wanting to get away from religious intolerance from OTHER RELIGIOUS PEOPLE (other sects of christianity)

you should also go look up the definition of religion. then perhaps you wouldn't make idiotic comments like this...

Congratulations on creating a new religion even less tolerant than Islam.

Try Liberty College, they have entire classes on the Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. This is why most Christians don't care about global warmi... climate change. Because they obviously have bigger things to worry about.

Ok... give me a fucking break. This is not abou freedom of speech. This is about some stupid ass psycho christian making a speech about her stupid religion at a public school!
This PISSES ME OFF.
Specially because recently something similar happened here in my city.
Every year, the seniors at the University (from which I graduated) have this ceremony, which is nothing more than a glorified mass, where they get a "blessing" from the bishop or something. It's crap like usual. But I have no problem with that, If they want to do it, it's their right.
But this year, they fucking performed this on the middle of the University Campus.
And that's not fucking right! It's a religious ceremony performed on the campus of a public university.

EMPIRE;

You may be confusing me for someone who disagree with the "spewing forth nonsense" part. You can be pissed off, you have the right. What you don't have is the right forcefully shut her up. The fact that it is a public school is irrelevant, SHE'S NOT IN THE ADMINISTRATION. It's completely different that say, a coach leading prayer. The coach would be a paid public servant, she is not! If kids run though the playground chanting to Allah or whomever, while I would be dismayed, I would never seek to criminalise it. If she was asked to speak, and they didn't speciffically tell her what to speak about the decision is her's. That's freedom, like it or not. Had you been there you might have gotten pissed and walked out, I probably would have started laughing...it's all good. Just don't be to quick to cross that line regarding freedom of speech, you may find yourself on the other side of that line someday
