Another in the case of: "Why didn't you say anything back then when it could have made a fucking difference"

Fucking Politicos making 'shocking' revelations years after the fact in order to sell books.

And it's a good day. I hope McLellan gets the full book tour.

I agree with you Farhad, this is a day late and a dollar short.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that someone from the "inner circle" is finally saying something. Never the less he's still a coward for not saying this years ago.

I wonder, if by chance the whole Iraq invasion had actually "worked" would he have still written the book?

To Farhad2K and MrConrads: don't underestimate the power of self-deception. I'm quite sure each person in Bush's upper echelon (including Bush his-own-self) really believes what they're trying to do. So from their point of view, they're in the right and all the liberals are merely doing what they do best: getting in the way because they hate America. <rolls eyes>

There's a reason this administration goes through so many Press Secretaries. I imagine it's kinda like Jonestown or Scientology: they're ignoring or at least setting aside any argument that doesn't jibe with their preconditioned outcome. McCellan couldn't have stopped "drinking the Kool-Aid" until he left the compound.

And Politicos has a right to sell books. Nothing wrong with that.

Oh, but wait, sorry McClelland, I just checked and, yep, you're permanently on the wrong side of history. Better luck next round.

I can see your point shuac, tell a lie long enough and you will begin to believe it yourself...
but 20/20 hind sight is no comfort when you finally wake up and realize you helped in the destruction of your own country.

I would hope there are stronger people in power that stand up when it counts.

Well said, sir.

I think you are cutting them a bit too much slack, these people knew exactly what they were doing. Now everyone is trying to absolve themselves from being one of the people actually responsible. Like rats jumping off a sinking ship.

I wouldn't be surprised if eventually all the blame will funnel and concentrate on one single character, when it reality it was a orchestra of failed principles and political opportunism.

Don't get me wrong Farhad, I don't mean to give this man or any other from this administration an inch of slack. I see this as no different then a German officer at Nurmeberg saying that he was only "following orders."
Was he deceived when the number of American KIAs was 1000, still at 2000, 3000, 4000 and so on...

I see this as nothing more than saving his own ass, I'm just glad he is saying it.

Yes, they're just still going to be damned by historians for CYA handwringing after the fact.

Now, if he gives sworn testimony before Congress, and his testimony leads to the eventual arrest of the top officials responsible, maaaybe I'll cut him some slack.

He's gonna be getting an invitation to come before the House judiciary committee soon, so he's got an opportunity at that.

I don't understand how no one seems to want to look at this critically. Is it possible that what he says is true? Sure. I think it seems suspicious. He gives no indication throughout his entire time working for the Bush administration that he feels this way, gets a book published with money from George Soros that is a guaranteed best seller on the tail of an unpopular presidency, and doesn't apply his knowledge to get some kind of legal action under way. How is it that all these people claiming to have knowledge of lies, deception, and war propaganda can't bring it to court? I would think if he truely wanted to clear his conscience he should testify. Lack of criminal charges should raise a red flag on their credibility. This isn't proof that he's lying with his book, but I think there is enough here to look at him critically until something substantive comes of it.

^ Scott McClellan's book says more about McClellan than it does about the administration? Nice Lurch.

You missed the last 4 years of news because you were watching FOX News or listening to airhead conservative radio and now you are saying that thinking critically means giving the administration the benefit of doubt. There is no liberal conspiracy to make the administration look stupid and corrupt, they actually are stupid and corrupt. The reason it hasn't been brought out in the courts is because they are not models of efficiency and certainly not above political corruption. The administration's support network has to fall before the people inside do.

Nope... don't watch Fox and I don't listen to the radio. Also, that wasn't my point. My point was that when you have serious allegations like this, action should be taken. He should testify. Just because someone writes a book that says what you already believe to be true doesn't make it true. It'd be nice if someone could get some proof one of these days, but all I ever see is partisan bickering. Sorry if I don't believe everything I read because it lines up with a particular political affiliation.

Action should be taken?
By who? Who has any power to put Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest of these criminals in prison? Congress? Some international war crimes tribunal? puh-lease.
