Rudy Giuliani - the Command Center built in wrong place

These experts, these grieving and furious family members, were united only by the fact that this story had to be told. Republicans, Independents, and Democrats could agree on just one thing: the cold hard facts about Rudy's terrible handling of 9/11 and the aftermath.

hmmmm 23rd floor....23 is Breaking Down or Tearing Apart in the I Ching....depending on yer translation-

Guliani was in on some of the logistics of the whole deal.....as in...complicit.
So was the owner of WTC. A vote for Rudy is a vote not only for a adulterous, lying asshole, but for a killer.

We have a more important anniversary coming up in the U.S.......one more important than the 4rth of July-Yet another day for a nation of putties to drop a pair and demand another investigation-6 yrs people, the longer you wait, the easier it is for the Nazifucks to pull some more collective wool.......

Funny, Time reported on this too in their article on Rudy last week.

Political reasons trumped practical considerations? Can't say I'm surprised. Sad.

The only thing I don't see them mention is the defensive, 'well, it's above the flood line' argument. Not that I see that flying much.

Another problem the video didn't mention is that the Fire and Police radios didn't communicate with each other. (Although arguably a working command centre could overcome that.) I wonder if they've since fixed that?

deedub81says...

Are you guys kidding me?

Hind sight is 20/20, after all. So he put the emergency command center in the wrong spot. How was he supposed to know that the WTC was going to completely collapse? I've gotten many professional opinions in my life that, in retrospect, I wish I would have followed. That's life.

Fire and Police radios didn't communicate? They are just on different channels. ...and wouldn't that fall under the Director of Emergency Management's job description anyway? Just like setting up backup command centers?

Rudy did so many good things for NYC. One of the things he did was lower the homicide rate! He wasn't perfect, and he didn't fix all the problems NYC has. Nobody is perfect.

Was anyone fully prepared for September 11th?

drattussays...

He didn't have to know it was going to collapse. Just that it was a target. The attack on the towers 7 or 8 years before had filled them with smoke and forced evacuation though it didn't bring them down, they knew it was a major target and would probably be one again. He was warned to put it elsewhere just for that reason.

He just wanted it within walking distance and was sure he knew better. Turns out he didn't.

deedub81says...

Um. He didn't know it was a target. Otherwise, why would they let people in the building? Possible target? Yes.

It was obviously a mistake to put it there. I agree. But how could he have known for sure?

drattussays...

Of course he knew it was a target, if you listen to the video it was stated by the people who hit it the first time that they'd hit it again. Not only he knew but everyone knew, it had been in the papers.

They let people in because we can't just shut down everything that would be a target, but that doesn't qualify putting the command center there. That should be somewhere #1 not underfoot of the expected rescue effort we'd need later and #2 where its function could be better guaranteed. He goofed.

In any case that stuff I don't care about as much as after the disaster. This is the type of thing that really bugs me.

http://conservativepresident2008.blogspot.com/2007/03/olbermann-giuliani-worst-person.html

He's all about image, but when it comes to actually doing the job he doesn't live up to it. I don't see how the reputation can survive the campaign.

joedirtsays...

deedub, I doubt your seriousness. You can't honestly believe your lame defense you are putting forth.

An Emergency Command Center (that would have generators and the works in case of major power outage, crisis, etc.) and it is on the 28th floor??!! (Could it be that his buddy Silverstein had an empty floor he needed a tenant for?). The site was chosen because it was in walking distance.

How many plots have been talked about regarding WTC? How many actual explosions an serious attempts have taken place in WTC complex? Are you insane?! That is like saying no one could have imagined hijacked planes being flown into bldgs, or no one imagined the levies would break in NOLA.

HOW COULD HE HAVE KNOWN FOR SURE???! How about when your Director of Emergency Management tells you so! Maybe Rudy opened a newspaper a few years ago and read about actual bomb being detonated across the f-ing street from where he was planning a Command Center.

And Rudy didn't do jack for the homicide rate. That was a historic trend and nothing he did per se. Look at other major urban homicide rates from the same time period. Rudy is a one trick pony.

"I've gotten many professional opinions in my life that, in retrospect, I wish I would have followed. That's life."

You must be a conservative wingnut. Why don't you try listening to other people and maybe you won't regret not getting counsel. Lord knows this country would be completely different if Bush ever did that. But he has your "That's Life" attitude.

I should have listened to those Generals.. Oh well, that's life.
I shouldn't have lied about intelligence to invade Iraq.. Oh well, that's life.
I shouldn't have had my boy toy Fredo draw up documents approving torture. Oh well, that's life.

Goofball_Jonessays...

Way to go JoeDirt! What a great attack piece on a presidential candidate! But you need to be a little more insistent on his guilt. Make sure you throw in some of the 9/11 conspiracy plots in on this also. Like say....start the rumor that Giuliani was in on the attack with the terrorists. That should totally destroy him!

Okay, Giuliani is taken care of. Who do we go after next?

theo47says...

Maybe deedub was still in diapers in '93 when the WTC was bombed, I dunno.

Point is, Rudy wasn't - and if he'd had half a brain or listened to anyone advising him, he wouldn't have put the command center there.

See, it's not a partisan attack if it's TRUE. It's asking you to reexamine Rudy's de facto crowning as the "hero" of 9/11, which is pretty much what he's basing his entire candidacy on. It sure ain't his conservative family values.

joedirtsays...

"Okay, Giuliani is taken care of. Who do we go after next?"

I dunno, are there more hypocrite presidential candidates? Like say, ones that push gay marriage bans, but are really closeted. How about politicians that talk about family values every chance they get, but really are visiting prostitutes or young underage male interns. Or maybe there are some candidates that like to dressup in women's clothing.

How about anyone that says we need to use nukes on other countries? Or ones that want to double Gitmo? Who is next?

bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb iran (that was McCain, but Rove already torpedoed him)

"I'm fed up with people defending these criminals, just get on with it and get them all out of power, not just for America, but for the rest of the world too."

Jesus Christ finally a voice of reason.....guess you have to be somewhere else to see how completely fucked we are in the US.....If the Clinton Thing-It wins, and she probably will, if you gauge it with the symbol-addicts here on the sift, then it will be 40 years, that the Executive branch has been in the hands of 2 families...(counting Bush Senior's reign as VP with Reagan, yes, bush led, with his hand in the back of Reagan's skull, like a sick ventriloquist.)

Vote all these ands theirs to jail, and make their fucking children pay as well. America's lack of will to live always gets me riled......where the fuck is SKYNET when you need it......matter of time......

deedub:

Did you actuall watch the video & retain nothing?

His EXPERT advisors told him it was a bad idea - he did it anyway with no overidingly compelling reason. You seem to think he had no way of 'knowing'. You're right, he couldn't have 'known' what was going to happen in the future, no one does, but that doesn't mean you can't adequately prepare for what probably could happen, especially when you have experts telling you what needs to be done.

Your personal experiences at choosing the wrong professionals to listen to and then take their bad advice means nothing in this situation except that you're a bigger fool than the normal Rudy supporter.

Rudy is an ass, always has been from what his former co-workers say, and that's why he made a bad decision to not follow the experts advice.

bamdrewsays...

Interesting. Really sad when he's trying to push the blame onto his emergency management advisors.

I'd never really thought about why he was out wandering the streets that day in front of the cameras and not actually managing the crisis.
