This video is pretty chilling. That speedo said 38 knots? That's like a car doing 250km an hour. You may have been IN a car that does 250km/h, but actually driving that fast, for a week straight?

Here's one to think about when you watch this- these conditions continue after dark, when it's not so easy to tell if you've lost anybody overboard. Hope your harness holds!

Anybody else notice the GIANT ICEBERG? This is not a friendly part of the world.

I thought 38 knots was more like 70 km/h?

Oh, I think I see what you mean. Relative to a sort of normal speed for a boat... 38:normalboatspeed is like 250km:normalcarspeed.

True, but my point is the psychelogical equivalent. Most racing yachts I've ever competed on average about 6 or 7 knots, and on a good reach you might get 12 or even 15 knots. 20 knots is about the fastest I've ever sailed, and it's crazy. I can imagine what it must be like to hit 38 knots- I've competed on a C+C 37R that might be able to do 30 knots, and a mumm 30 that might be able to do 35... but 38 knots is just.. sports car insane-o fast. And these boats are doing it for weeks at a time, day and night.

Yes, precisely.

And how come my comment came up after yours...?

Are we sure that's not Wind Speed, and not Boat Speed?

I wrote the second message before I saw your explanation. It just occurred to me while I was thinking about it. Did you really respond before my second message?

I think that 38kts is wind speed.
