ridiculously cheeky. he basically just made the whole defence feel like small talentless children. the goalie probably cried after the game.

For me, Maradona is the best and Messi the most exciting current player.

His arm doesn't look so tiny in real life.

It doesn't look that special - he basically got lucky as to who jumped and how high. I've seen it tried a few times, although it normally gets blocked.

I remember my brother, not even into football, he was idly watching a match with me and he figured out this trick and asked if anyone ever tries to take advantage of the jumping wall like this. When I'm playing, I jump but try to keep my toes pointing down to stop there being enough space, although that's easier to do when you can't jump very high

i don't think he's talking about diego's current performance levels. at his peak maradona was untouchable, absolutely phenomenal. even the 'hand of god' shouldn't blind you to that fact.

I'm afraid that, for me, it completely destroys any credibility that his footballing talent brought.

Same goes for Cantona and his abhorrent flying kick into the crowd. He should have been banned for life and had any medals stripped off him for disgusting behaviour like that.

Same goes for all sportsmen that do such things. They're granted such HUGE privelige and money and respect for what they do. They're idolised by youngsters in a way that no one else can be. And they flounce around the pitch diving on the ground if someone comes within 2 inches of a tackle, they act like they're untouchable on and off the pitch, they act like they're beyond reproach - answerable to no human or laws. Cunts of the highest order, and anyone who steps even remotely out of line ought to be made to suffer badly enough that they realise they're human just like everyone else, they're stuck on this planet wondering what we're sposed to be doing just like everyone else, and their fluffed up self importance is all in their heads.

Drugs, breaking the law, diving, acting like the world should revolve around them. I'd string them up for the contempt that they show to people and places that pay their wages. It disgusts me in a way that i normally reserve for war criminals. (Queue contemptible morons going LOL MARADONNA = HITLER NICE ANALOGY)

*Pause for breath*
Ok sorry, i really start to rant when i talk about egotist sportsmen.

Aaaaaaaanyway, maradona was a druggy argentinian cheat even during his peak. The fat just came like 3 months after his peak.

fair enough. but if you're talking about pure skill (arrogance and bad behaviour aside), maradona has to be up there, if not top, with cantona near the summit. the thing is, most sporting 'geniuses' are headfucks. look at loopy gascoigne. even george best to an extent.

Ok, for someone who doesn't understand "footy" beyond "it gives Germans and hools something to riot over," why is what I'm watching remarkable?

^I take it that typically you try to kick over the wall of stupid people, who them jump to try to block it. This guy took advantage by kicking the ball at their feet, so that they would jump over the ball and feel stupid. Success!

Maradona was a staggering talent and I don't think we've seen anyone since, perhaps Messi, come close to what he could do on a football pitch. Remember in the 1982 World Cup he was kicked off the pitch because opponents feared him. In 1986 he virtually won it single-handed and they got to the final in 1990 where the Germans didn't exactly cover themselves in glory.

The 1994 World Cup marked the start of the tackle from behind rule and the idea that we shouldn't allow defenders to kick lumps out of the best players. Maradona was still playing then but sent home after the positive ephedrine result, but I wonder what he would have achieved under a similar set of rules from the start of his career. At least one more World Cup I reckon.

I'm not a die-hard football fan but for me he's the best just for his goals in 1986 especially his second against England. Also it should not be forgotten he galvanised Napoli to their only league titles in 1987 and 1990.

This only works when the defense knows they're up against an awesome kicker, such as Ronaldinho (one of the best ever) so they try to jump extra high to block the ball.

Come on. Let's be honest about this. None of those football men wanted to hurt their feet. That was a fast kick by that other football kicker man, and it was going straight at their feet.
That ball - if that hits your foot you'd know about it. That's why it's called football you know, aim for the feet and take the football men out.
I think this was fantastic defensive playing myself. Not one of the football men got hurt, and the kicker man is embarrassed now that he missed.
Some of the best football jumping defence I've seen.
Everyone thinks this game should be something else, but in reality a decent game of football involves two very talented teams of bottom heavy players, and looks much more like ten-pin bowling than what we see in this bastardised game.

This moment kind of seems like the punch line the game of soccer has been building up to for the last few hundred years.
Just sublime natural comedy.

I don't know who that goalie is, but he just looks like a d-bag. Especially after that little hissy fit.
