Aw that was so funny! The way the cross just floats in over his shoulder! I'm sure it was an accident

I love how Paul implies that Huckabee is a fascist for his Christmas message. What a jerk. WHO CARES! He's a Christian wishing the country a Merry Christmas.

I don't think Paul outright called him a fascist - but perhaps the intimation was there subtly.

You know subtlety - like placing a subliminal cross in the background of a candidate's commercial to try and give the message that they are Jesus' choice for President.

[edit] Haha, yes I wrote eluded instead of alluded. I was working on a couple hours sleep when I wrote that. Sorry. That was a tad embarrassing. [/edit]

Actually, Ron Paul didn't call him a fascist - maybe it was alluded to, though. Haha. The Sinclair Lewis quote was, "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." He said it probably wasn't a fair assessment. Still, he pointed out that Huckabee could be using the cross to allude to being the only Christian presidential candidate. I don't know. Merry Christmas!

Definitely eluded to.

The thing I find most ironic about Ron Paul, is that most of the people I've come across that support him are not registered Republicans.

I think what RP is eluding to is that it's ok for a politician to have faith in God. But to then use that faith in God to get other Christians to have faith in him as a politician is a dangerous thing. I believe part of the reason Bush has gotten away with so much is because of his huge evangelical following that does not question his actions because they have faith in him as a man who has faith in God.

Also talk about pandering to the religious right...he's just feeding into the myth of how "Christmas is under attack" in this country and how he's one of the good ones that knows that "Jesus is the reason for the season". If you think it was just about saying "Merry Christmas" your being naive.

That cross is border-line subliminal. I like how the entertainment-journalist stammered, then tried to clarify their (big media) new #1 (supposed?) candidate. Did he look left at his handler? were they making a "slit the throat" gesture at him? They didn't even talk about the 6 million dollars.. we'll get to that "in a minute or so." Couldn't get him off the screen fast enough.

he went from attack-mode to friendly-mode really quick. not too subtle there. alluded. good word of the day.

deedub: "The thing I find most ironic about Ron Paul, is that most of the people I've come across that support him are not registered Republicans."

Oh noes. Then they can't be true supporters, because the only way to support a politician is to be part of the party. [/sarcasm] That makes no sense, in my opinion. I registered as a Republican, but that was so I could vote in the primaries for Ron Paul. Anything to take a vote away from annoying bible thumpers like Huckapee, Shit Romney or Ghouliani.

"Good morning, I'm in...in <clears throat>... Des Moines, Iowa."

"Ok, that's good. We're glad to hear that. Ummm...."

Note the smug, almost prepubescent teenage girl, junior high tone inherent in nearly every Fux-U-News personality. Almost expected him to roll his eyes and say, "NE WAY!".

"The thing I find most ironic about Ron Paul, is that most of the people I've come across that support him are not registered Republicans."

Some supporters are like me: centrists who feel Republicans' strategy over the last 8 years has been misguided and has produced measurably very bad results.

More power to the Republicans if they can bring in people from across the aisle, because the only way to do that is to be genuinely doing a good job.

That "cross" was offensive to liberals. Huck should soothe them with some gay penguins battling global warming with the power of rainbows. And a burning Israel for the RoPaul kooks.

Doc_M: Do not underestimate the power of the subconsciousness.
All marketing is about gently manipulating people, why would campaign ads be any different?

QM, missing the point and going after that straw man...no one is "offended" by the "cross". If anything people are bothered by how he is using it....many conservative Christians also have a problem with him using "Christ" as a campaign gimmick.

Saying that wasn't a cross is like saying Jerry Seinfeld doesn't like diet Coke. Its product placement pure and simple.

"IT'S NOT A FUCKING CROSS!"

Bwaaahahahaa!

And he also didn't say "celebration of the birth of christ", or "god bless", or "christmas season".

If he wasn't running for office, nobody would care. But he spent real cash getting that commercial made and it was very professional. Add to that the cash spent on putting on the air, and you better believe it is there to get votes. The one and only possible audience is people who associate being christian with being a good person, stupid as that is. But whatever, use all the symbols you want to get the symbol-minded to vote for you.

Oh, and sorry for the lack of caps.

Jimmy Carter is a sincere Christian and one of the worst US Presidents.

Huckabee is a sincere Christian and tax-addicted RINO. He won't win.

RoPaul is the best case against RoPaul. The more he speaks, the more he digs his own political grave.

I think QM might be hinting at the fact that the political system (not the people) dont like what he is saying so yes i would have to agree that he is digging his own grave. Washington is not going to allow someone like him to say and do the things he does. The people might support him but the government doesnt, and unfortunatley lately i would have to say the government decides, not the people
