Ron Paul - Third option (2008-09-10)

Discussing other options...

I think everyone should vote with their conscience instead of voting out of fear. Government and law is supposed to be built on reason, not passion; shouldn't our pick of president require the same criteria? A small increase in votes for independents (read: non Democrat/Republican tickets) would surely gather the attention of voters next election, and that's all that is needed to legitimize them in the political arena.

Vote independent in 2008.

America has been dying since the beginning of the 20 century. Every four years American's are presented with two options--two options which are portrayed as complete opposites of each other. The reality is different.

Democrats and post-20th century republicans desire the same result: increased government, more spending, and larger budgets. Every four years the American people are asked a question: your economic freedom or your personal freedom. Republicans want to restrict your personal freedoms--they say: do whatever you want with your money, but we want to control your lives. Democrats want to restrict your economic freedom-- they say: do whatever you want with your lives, but we want to control your money.

Americans want control over their own lives, and their own money--thus, this is a tough decision for most and historically, has depended more on the current economic and political situation at the time of the election than the will of the people.

Democrats in the 20th century have been responsible for the largest increases in the size of the government. One cannot merely look at the budgets during democratic presidents and compare them with republican budgets--you have to look at the long term effects. When a governmental program begins--it is rarely terminated--and programs only receive more and more funding as years pass Health and welfare services began as a meager 5% of national budgets but have grown to well over 60%. Democrats are directly responsible for the death of American freedom and the emergence of American socialism.

Republicans are equally guilty. In the last 100 years, America has been in almost constant war--whether hot or cold. Republicans have done nothing to terminate or even reduce the size of socialist programs. What they have done is turned America into an empire--increasing its defense budgets and pursuing an atrocious foreign policy. One that has lead to the destruction of many of our civil liberties. They have held close ties to corporate lobbyists, and utilized both America's military and economic prowess in the fraudulent furtherance of corporate and personal interests.

America is being alternatively attacked on both fronts: personal liberties and economic liberties--this is not done simultaneously as it would be political suicide to attempt to build a party on the principle of restricted personal liberties and economic liberties. Rather the democrats and republicans take turns acting as the burglar, pointing a gun at the American people and demanding "your life or your money."

But American's do have a choice--they can say NO to the republican's claims on their personal lives and they can say NO to the democrat's claims on their paycheck. All they need to do is realize a 3rd option exists...one which allows them to control their personal lives and their personal income.
