It won't be pointless when you add VR goggles and a virtual space that you want to navigate through naturally without a joystick.
I don't think that would work. what if you suddenly change direction? How would the robot treadmill be able to accommodate that?

I'm pretty sure they are working on that. I can't find the video for it, but I know I've seen it here before. They are supposed to place themselves in front of wherever you are turned, or wherever it senses you going, or something. Damn, I wish I could find that video.
