10-17-2009 - The police chopper was shot over a favela and landed and burned down inside the Olympic Village in Vila Isabel. Two military police officers in the chopper died either on the crash or burned to death. It has been an all out war today, ten were killed by the police in retaliation, at least seven buses burned down by criminals.

Brazilians must be happy this didn't happen before Rio got the 2016 Olympics.

Apparently the buses were burned down in another part of town in a concerted effort to divert police while the criminals responsible for shooting down the chopper escaped.

Indeed. Isn't it interesting that this is how bad things are in Rio, and the majority of the International Olympic Committee would still prefer to go to Rio over Chicago??
