In a "progressive country" who's going to pay for the aging citizens when the increasing populous is burning cars & won't integrate? Same with us: who'll pay social security with a growing number of workers that aren't in our system? As our country grows, those who pay continue to decline. Putting that in perspective, simple math frightens me.
Did Maher make these women look intelligent? Heck no. All he did was cram his opinion down their throats while they sat idly by & clucked.
I don't like the Bill's on either side, Maher or O'Reilly, they're all hate mongers on both sides of the extreme spectrum. Maher is a fact-less hack & O'Reilly is a perverted bigot.
Viva le Savage.
I have no idea what a pronoun like "bulbous" means when applied to an abstract like "welfare system". I'll assume that you're saying it's bad. Also false and stupid. Europe has a very low crime rate and proportionally low costs for crime prevention and imprisonment BECAUSE they take care of their needy and the needy don't turn to crime as often. On that scale the US system is less efficient because of the huge amount of money wasted on law enforcement.
Maher may not have brought up many facts but at least he didn't make stuff up to fit his argument.
Whoa jacksinmusic... Do you have any clue what you're talking about? Europe is not a country for starters. Given that starting point it's not surprising that you got everything else wrong too. They have a positive growth rate, has a military only behind the US, Russia and China, and they are one of the most crucial players in world politics.

QFT
"They have positive growth rate" I was referring to birthrate: global birthrate. The main countries with positive growth are African & Arab. You need to have a 20.00 to even sustain sustain a population, Europeans are all in a decline. Why reproduce when there's less pressing matters to attend to? Such as... ummm... gondolas?
Oh my bad, European military might pops in at #19 on the list
Europe's welfare system is supported by Europeans, not illegal immigrants. Roughly 30% of France is now Muslims. With a low "citizen" birthrate, who will pay for the aging Frenchmen? Sounds bulbous to me. Is that the right word? Probably not, but I do like it. Bulbous:)

Not sure how they justify having a military spend bigger than all other countries put together though...

The byproduct of drunksifting usually produces a few errors as I'm all fired up & stuff, but for the most part, what I say holds true.

"Still can't quite see "Europe" listed as a country" Yeah, that was because I was lit, my bad.
Huh? I sited Germany because they're military is the closest blah blah blah. Why am I trying to argue with you? Research the demographics, history, & various uses of the word "bulbous" & you'll see that a country/content which doesn't sustain it's birthrate, has unchecked immigration, a weak military, & no incentive to work (welfare) is a country/content that's not worth siting by Bill Maher. He's not that funny anyways which is why making pot-shots with a bunch of hens makes him seem smart.
Welcome to the New Third World Order. If we continue in the spiral downward socially, economically and demographically, the dillution of culture will make this place (USA) look like the cheese from space.....No sense of style, class, taste, evrything made from plastic in Taiwan, and the universal language will sound like construction crews at the Tower of Babel........Oh, not to metion a large segment of societies worldwide who are centuries behind the reformation in their sensibilities and cultures.......But of course, we have to be sensitive and caring, and bring countries up to speed slowly, like poor Kim Jong Il, and "wouldawannagettAhmadinejad" mad.......And Folks with some common sense and love for the planet that surpasses carbon emissions, get curt, clever little come-backs from crotch-scatching, cut-and-paste college kids, who think driving a hybrid car will solve the worlds ills.........
But, Chomsky saw this bullshit coming 40 years ago, lotsa folks did
Oh yeah and Bill Maher is a snipeish little twerp, whose irritating tone and timbre is not unlike Nosferatu's fingernails on a chalkboard from Bill's elementary school he never graduated from.......
"Hey stranger! I really like your country & that I can get familiar food."
"Yeah tourist, eating American chicken nuggets is great."
We've done so much yet something non-tangible like Islam can transcend borders & truely link people from every corner of the globe... wait, the Earth isn't a square so that thing about corners, oops...
Anywho, we're doomed.
