Red Light Camera - CONSPIRACY !

ALL is not what it seems :-)

I remember this. They since took these lights down and have put them back up. I guess they have to pass some regulations now. All these really do is teach you which lights you shouldn't push it with. Once you've memorized the intersections, continue driving like a douche.

I don't even think this point was correctly made on the video which is a bit of a let down, but saying "We want a minimum <anything> per day/week/month/year!" is basically saying that you specifically DON'T want to eradicate road safety.

I *demand* that 10 people run a red light every single day. What, people have stopped running red lights? OK, let's trick them into running red lights.

Forget road safety for a few minutes, this is everything that's wrong with today's society.

Welcome to the UK!

We have these things everywhere, along with GATSO (speed) cameras, and they generate millions of pounds in revenue which goes straight back to the government.

Latest figures available (from 2005) show that they have generated 1.92 million tickets/fines which resulted in revenue of at *least* £115.2m, approx $220m. Those figures are just for speed cameras and don't include the red light cameras.

Going to the government is fine. However, what is wrong with this setup is that the company who makes the cameras gets a portion of each ticket. They are using their contract with the city to prevent the city from trying to make the intersection safer by elongating the length of a yellow light. Scumbags.
