Rachel Ray did an ad for Dunkin Donuts while wearing a scarf. Michelle Malkin said Rachel was wearing a *gasp* PALESTINIAN scarf (keffiyeh), so Dunkin Donuts actually PULLED THE AD! So damn ridiculous that I still can barely believe it.

But it STUNNED me to hear that DD caved. I mean FUCKING HELL, they ACTUALLY PULLED THE AD! What kind of horrendously stupid pandering to the extremists is this? Oh yes, she's wearing a paisley scarf, we apologize, that was horrible of us... horrible.
Why would you even do this from a marketing standpoint? It's SO OBVIOUSLY NOT supporting anything other than their terrible brand of iced drinks (or something) that if you left it up only the absolute nuttiest of nuts would be offended and the rest of the sane world would come to your website to see what the nuts were complaining about, and therefore give you oodles of publicity.
It is Utterly, UTTERLY disgusting that they pulled the ad, utterly.
Right wing nuts have all the right in the world to complain that they think that it's supporting terrorists who enjoy iced beverages, but the rest of us should be more than allowed to tell them 'Good for you whackjob, you spend you entire life LOOKING for evil signs of terrorists everywhere, we'll continue actually living our lives and ignoring you, thanks'.

My biggest issue isn't that somebody had a beef about the scarf. People are always going to throw out ridiculous accusations towards corporations. They get barrages of complaints about ads all the time. I'm trying to figure out why Dunkin Donuts would pull the add just because somebody had something against it.
So if someone said the "left-wing blogosphere" when they really meant just DailyKos, Atrios, and MyDD, I'd still believe they have a right to say that because those three are huge left wing blogs.

Well if thats the case then why don't we ban all adds for box cutters? They (the terrorists) pretty much ruined that household object now didn't they? Or how about sandals, I bet lots of terrorists wear sandals while killing American soldiers. I refuse to see a scarf from a culture that predates the whole goddamn Israeli-Palestinian conflict as nothing more than a goddamn scarf. If someone else wants to designate it as a symbol of hate it does NOT mean we are compelled to follow suit. Just because some Palestinians view this scarf through that lens it doesn't mean that every Palestinian sees it the same way. Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and many right wingers hate France. That doesn't mean all Americans hate France.

If you believe that, you are truly out of touch with middle eastern current events. The Kaffeiyeh is not what it once was. I hate to break it to you kiddo, but the meaning of symbols change throughout time, whether you want them to or not, whether you deny it or not.
I do not believe that DD wanted to support terrorists or that the thought to do so even crossed DD's mind. I do not believe that the ad in any way supports terror. But, the fact is that people took offense, on both sides of the issue; one group because they thought it supports terror and one group because they thought the symbol of their oppression was being commercialized.
And I know the Kaffeiya isn't a swastika - that was what the Nazis used while trying to kill every living Jew, the Kaffeiya is what Hammas and Hezbolah use as a symbol while trying to kill every living Jew, so you're quite right.
If YOU choose to see it as a symbol of hate, that is YOUR decision. It is not your place to tell me how to interpret that symbol, nor is it Michelle Malkin's, or Zionists, or Palestinans. I don't think you really understand the issue. You are ignorant to the meaning of the Kaffeiya, so why should it offend you. You say it's just a scarf (and I can tell you that statement alone is very offensive to some people). You are not the only person in the world and not everyone in the world thinks like you or has your world view. Just because it doesn't offend you doesn't mean that it isn't offensive to others. Just because people don't think like you do doesn't give you the right to spread hatred.
