Tampa Town Hall: Free Speech, or Mob Censorship?

This is raw footage from Kathy Castor's town hall meeting in Tampa last night. If you can shut down the discussion, winning the argument is not necessary.

Dissenting arguments = wingnut behavior? This is a very important discussion, and if you ask me the "wingnuts" were being wrongfully excluded from a public meeting. Maybe some believe when politicians meet to discuss policies that affect all of us only those who agree should be allowed in otherwise they're disruptive wingnuts.

This is what happens when you try to ram a socialist agenda down Americans throats. No wonder Obama wanted everything passed before the August break. He didn't want American citizens to have a say in the matter.

What discussion were they having? Seems to me that their goal was just to yell and scream, and prevent there from being any discussion.

Your video includes its own spin, of course. "Union thugs"? Are you fucking kidding me? People on both sides got shut out. The room only holds so many people.

I thought you didn't like fear and intimidation tactics. Guess that's only when they're being used by your political opponents.

Discussion involves listening, not just yelling and screaming slogans.

Yes, conservatives at their best. And this subject will only get worst as time progresses. Conservatives are just angry about everything (pick the subject). 20-30 years ago, they used to be the top dogs, calling the shots in the USA. Over time, their power base eroded, until, the idiot, George W. Bush was in office, and turned off liberals, Democrates, Moderates, and everyone who isn't A) white B) old and C) filthy rich.

There is no common ground with people, in this state of emotion. They're frontal lobes (the part of the brain that handles thought and reason) are shut down. 'Blind Rage' is the best way to explain this. They do not want to talk, discuss, or even argue a better approach to a huge problem. This video is Chaos vs Order, plain and simple. And this sort of destructive path is only going to grow more intensive. Some day soon, it will explode, and many will be either severely injured or killed. After its over, and people picking up the peices, all the conservatives, Republicans, and talk radio/Fox News types will disavow having anything to do with the rage. None of these people will claim being responsible (which *IS* a Republican thing to do).

I think the President, should take time out of his very busy schedule (and he has the toughest schedule, known to Mankind), and explain, every part of the Health Care Reform. The Goverment, will have to enlist people, to help dumb down the English, so Conservatives and Republicans, can keep up with the conversasion.

Health Care Reform WILL PASS. The Democratics control the Executive, Legistative branchs of goverment. Included, they could have a filibuster proof issue.

Oh yes because we never see liberals acting like buffoons when they protest.

You're either a partisan hack or ignorant.

Yes, Liberals behave oddly and poorly at times. Usually when some Republican decides the best way to win a war. Is to fabricate false intelligence about some nuclear weapons, being in the hands of a nation, that had nothing to do with another terrorist act from a group that has nothing to do with the second group......

Yeah, Republicans have 'never' done that. Or pushed legistlation through, that allows them to spy on all 300+ million Americans (and the 10-14 million illegal aliens), in clear violation of the 4th Amendment. No, no, no, Republicans would 'never' do that either. Right?

Be as it may be, the people shown here, are not being polite, patient, honest, truthful, or respectful. The sort of 'dialogue' seen here, is rather typical of Bill O'Reily. Watch Mr. O'Reily when he really gets going and arguing a position (whether winnable or not). The man starts raising his voice, pointing (either in the air or at the person he's 'talking' to). Until, such time, as he's shouting the person down, in an attempt to drown out the other person's dialogue. The Video Sift has PLENTY of such examples.

People on the Conservative side, simply learn from Mr. Hannity, Mr. Beck, Mr. O'Reilly, and Mr. Limbaugh(sp?) how to 'debate' and 'argue' a point. A) Drown out the other guy B) Make cheap insults to the other guy C) Forgo the usuage of facts and statics when its inconvient, or simply falsified them. Dont believe me, go look it up.

C'mon
You must be one of those rednecks that blames the goverment for not halping you but when the "other party" whant to help, you complain, very nice, now I understand...

The difference is that we get tazed, beaten, gassed and arrested when we start making noise.

Oh how "Oppressed" these poor right-wingers are, it makes my heart bleed, with all the disapproving looks, and attempts to keep lawful order in a public building.

The freedom of speech implies the right to counter, and even obstructive speech, I don't have a problem with that. But, we on the left have been denied it for the better part of the last 8 years. I find it particularly annoying that the right now finds this freedom so sacred as to be "offended" at the merest inconvenience while exercising it.

Amen brother! These sob's were allowed to yell and scream to their hearts content.. how many of them were arrested? i'm guessing a damn sight fewer than the last people to protest a GWB speech.

Idiot conservatives. Seriously, defending this type of behavior is why you are marginalized, if you could have mature discussions with facts and intelligent arguements instead of yelling and screaming INCORRECT ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THINGS YOU'VE NEVER READ (otherwise known as wharrgarbl) then perhaps you would be taken more seriously.

In other words conservatives (and I used to claim that title until I saw crap like this happening everywhere) act like an adult and you'll be treated like one, act like a child and expect to be spanked.

BTW Shiner, post video of liberals doing this, and I'll address it, otherwise it's friggin hearsay, which seems to be all it takes to get the conservatives up in arms now. Next thing you know these people will be pissed cause we faked the damn moon landings.

NordlichReitersays...

This is why I require a Republic Democracy, even though the words are different and the action of both are unique. We get the best of both worlds, a majority rule with out a majority rabble.

"Repeated violations of those parchment barriers have been committed by overbearing majorities in every State. In Virginia I have seen the bill of rights violated in every instance where it has been opposed to a popular current."

http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/AmericanIdeal/aspects/demrep.html

I do, so much prefer Jefferson's Politics.

We had a Republic, and we lost it. Do not kid yourselves, we lost it along time ago. I would say right after the establishment of the United States.

Now we have a Democracy which is all good and grand, however we have a whole host of problems now.

Military Industrial Complex, Issues with "Bombing Brown People", Rampant Majorities yelling about vengeance for 9/11. Of which, sadly, I was probably a part of. Of which I no longer consider myself.

I would appreciate more Critical Thought devoid of Religion, Bias, and Emotion throughout Politics and Life in general.

I do not know enough about Health Care Systems, to say whether I like any of them. I am, rather, more concerned with the FED and Lobbyists. However I would think that digging deep enough we would find the silver lining of Free health care to be marred with something. As with all ideas there are always an up and downside.

Education is always the answer, real education. Unbiased, unadulterated truth even if it hurts.

What's the point? Videosift ignored those videos then and they will ignore them now.

Nobody here was up in arms when code pink was storming Condoleeza Rice with fake blood on their hands disrupting hearings. That type of disturbance doesn't bother people because it's in line with their agenda. But when people protest something they agree with, well now it's time to start bashing them and claiming they aren't playing fair.

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

NetRunnersays...

^ Most of the people I know didn't particularly care for Code Pink. Their behavior often seemed to sap credibility from what the rest of us were saying.

That said, Code Pink was not encouraged by the larger progressive movement. In fact, most of the liberal blogs went out of their way to chastise them, not that they listened.

Right now we're seeing the opposite from the right. These people are being encouraged by the whole conservative movement, root to branch, libertarian to neocon.
