Qui-Gon was unorthodox, yes - and if more Jedi thought like he did - they may not have fallen - and Sidious knew this which is why he practically programmed Maul to search and destroy and take out the one Jedi who could have stopped him..
It wasn’t Qui-Gon’s fault the Jedi Council (including Yoda) effed up big time. and are you guys forgetting it was Qui-Gon who taught the Jedi how to retain - their consciousness when they Joined the Force? If you don't believe me, get the novellisation of RotS (Paperback) pages 441-2 and yes, Lucas cold have written a way better script for Episode I - so please don't blame Qui-Gon for that. And in RotS when Sidious mentions that there's ONE who had overcome death (he lead Analin to believe it was Plagueis) but it was in fact Qui-Gon and we know this as Yoda mentions it at the end of the movie - or weren't you guys watching?
