Follow up to the original crash footage. Thanks zamnight for the link.

News footage of an already sifted vid is something I tend to avoid posting as a general principle unless I find the report fascinating; since I've sifted it, you can rest assured that I did.

It actually includes some of the original footage, plus reporting on what happened.

You know fire truck? It turns out it got hit a few times too!

And they just sent it there to close off the street. On second thought, I'm adding the comedy tag to this just because that makes me laugh.

Once i again i have to say, why don't these people have tire chains?

Nord - if it only snowed once or twice a year in your urban city, would you really invest in tire chains, let alone winter tires?

I got winter tires myself, but chains would be overkill.

i'm sure it has a lot to do with how smooth the roads are as well. here in colorado the roads are a lot rougher, and we're much better equipped to deal with the wintertime in general. i talked to people in redmond all day during that storm and it pretty much shut the entire area down... that same storm hit us later that week and dumped about 3 feet of snow when all was said and done.

still though, there's a skill to navigating snowy/icy roads, and some people just don't have it. all-weather tires help too.

I hope you mean winter tires. All-weather tires, aren't.

*shrug* i have all-weathers on mine, but then again it's AWD too.

AWD no doubt helps; and perhaps *high quality* all-weathers.

I still shudder when I think about the spinning and sliding in an old Camry near the airport. All-weather my ass! I don't know if the tires were old and worn, or just low quality.

Shortly afterwards I also found out, you see, that the car in fact did *not* have ABS either. (Fortunately I didn't find out the "fun" way by hitting something, but it disturbed me nonehteless). In general, I'm really pissed off at Toyota for considering ABS optional for so many of its models. And (rear) drum brakes? What the heck were they thinking? I'm just referring to the basic models of the Matrix, although some of their other models also suffered accordingly. What a complete joke.

In contrast to that lingering anger, I SO love bounding through snow in my Mz3 (four wheel disc brakes, quality too) with winter tires.

BTW that's 32F equivalent to 0 degrees C. Probably a contributing factor. The snow would be melting and refreezing.

Sidenote: I am seriously bemused by the fact that this video, a commentary on an earlier top 15 vid, hit the top 15 itself.

Is it the Portland vote? Should I take care to pander more to them in the future? <grin>

Studded tires would have put the brakes on this! Our tires on our station wagon this year are incredible, they are studded and insanely siped. It WORKS on snow and ice.
