Penn & Teller - Bullshit!: Environmental Hysteria

theo47says...

I love P&T:Bullshit, but this episode is titled "Environmental Hysteria" (which is bullshit), not "Global Warming" (which is not). P&T are great, but they don't always do their homework. I mean, they go to the Cato Institute for an opinion on global warming?!? Sheesh. Why not just ask Exxon directly?

Downvoted for misleading title.

Ok, Theo show me evidence of global warming? With the relitively short time we have of weather data you can't show anything. Heck in the early 80's everyone was worried about another iceage. The wonderful thing about nature is that it adapts and balances just like humans do. And the point of this presentation was about people who put hidden agenda under the guise of global warming and enviromentalism.

theo47says...

Don't tell me what I can and can't show you, moron.
And don't make me do your homework for you, either.

I'm merely suggesting the title of this video reflect its content. This does NOT say that global warming is "bullshit". If P&T want to seriously argue about that, I suggest they talk to Al Gore and the scientific community instead of a bunch of easy targets like stoned-out Phishheads.

choggiesays...

....yeah, talk to Al Gore, and while yer at it, talk to the whole cabal , get all feel goody, then pissed off, then wake up tomorrow and tell yourself you just wish they would understand that the earth can't handle the strain of so many ignorant monkies....
see, gordonheap, you got not a chance, when you are convicted based upon some half-assed blogsterbation, and tagged with the scarlet letter of "M" for moron, no amount of impiracal evidence, or the voice of Allah herself, could sway the members of the "OH my God we are destroying the planet with our fumes" cabal.....

The fume haters are all so angry and frustrated....and they toss like howler monkies when you tip a sacred cow.........

detlev409says...

And calling people a moron for asking that you back up an opinion that is supposedly based on scientific research is super classy, Theo. That star next to your name doesn't give you license to get mouthy with people whose opinions you don't like.

For the record, I'm on your side in regards to this issue. But we should always be able to justify our claims, especially scientific ones. It's disappointing because there are plenty of solid, easily accessible sources you could have cited. Or, if you really didn't want to do the work, you could have simply stated that the other commentor should have an open mind, and investigate on his own.

This condescending, confrontational attitude is a big part of why we have such a problem convincing people we're in the right on this issue.

And an additional comment: When did 'Sift become such a hostile site? It's like a Fark/Digg flamewar in a lot of these threads. I've been lurking for far longer than I've been commenting, and the discussions used to be much more civil, even between disagreeing parties.

theo47says...

I'm not the one who hasn't done their homework here, detlev.

I'm sorry if you think I should be more tolerant of people who deliberately keep themselves ignorant - I disagree.

You go ahead and hold hands with the retards - I've got evolving to do.

"Hostile" enough for ya?

rensays...

admirable effort theo, but potentially futile.
Some people would like to preserve the planet for future generations to use, others want to see it covered in brown crap and "adapting" to human behavior.

chogs reckons we have bigger problems than the earth warming up, but as changes in human behavior take decades to implement, doing something now before it's obvious to even the most simple humans is the right way to attack the problem.

Waiting 50 years, and then going "oh hey shit they were right", and madly using stop gap solutions to the problem seems stupid and futile. What does it matter if all global warming is or isn't caused by humans, it's clear we add to the effect and thats only going to make it worse if its part of a natural cycle.

viewer_999says...

Hm, not sure what all the hubbub is in this thread.
1. As P&T show, some of the hysteria IS pointless and directionless (and that spokeswoman is a real dipshit)
2. the episode is in fact NOT about global warming
3. P&T often don't research enough, but they're often spot-on as well
4. global warming evidence is very easy to find - to have it all handed to you watch Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth.

nibiyabisays...

Environmentalists are funny. They think we have so much more impact on the world than we really do.

These are the same silly people who thought the first atomic bomb was going to blow up Earth (they had calculations to back it up and everything).
